Job summary

Cygnet Elowen Hospital in Derbyshire is seeking a reliable Maintenance Operative to provide maintenance, repair and facilities support across the hospital. This full-time role involves 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, at £13.15 per hour.

You’ll help ensure a safe, welcoming and well-maintained environment for patients, colleagues and visitors, with duties including general maintenance, safety checks and occasional emergency repairs. DBS check is required.

Qualifications

• Experience in a maintenance operative or similar role.
• Proficient in general DIY tasks, plumbing, painting and basic joinery.
• Able to carry out routine maintenance checks and maintain records.

Responsibilities

• Provide a responsive general maintenance and repair service.
• Carry out building maintenance, basic joinery, plumbing, painting and DIY tasks.
• Perform routine safety and property checks and keep records up to date.
• Support planned preventative maintenance and respond to repair requests promptly.
• Participate in fire safety checks and safety reporting.

Maintenance Operative / General Maintenance Technician

Cygnet Elowen Hospital, Derbyshire | Full Time | £13.15 per hour

At Cygnet Elowen Hospital, we are looking for a reliable and practical Maintenance Operative to provide a high-quality maintenance, repair and facilities support service across the hospital. You’ll help ensure our environment remains safe, welcoming and well maintained for the people in our care, our colleagues and visitors.

You’ll be working 40 hours per week (Monday to Friday) at Cygnet Elowen Hospital, supporting a service for individuals with eating disorders, personality disorders and disordered eating.

Your Day-to-day Responsibilities Will Include:

• Providing a responsive and effective general maintenance and repair service
• Carrying out a wide range of building maintenance tasks, including basic joinery, plumbing, painting, decorating and general DIY repairs
• Completing routine property maintenance checks to ensure the hospital remains safe, functional and well presented
• Maintaining equipment, services and vehicles to a high standard
• Supporting planned preventative maintenance and responding to repair requests in a timely manner
• Completing regular fire safety checks, including fire alarm points, fire exits, door retaining devices and emergency lighting
• Following safe working practices and reporting faulty equipment, maintenance issues or potential hazards
• Keeping accurate records of maintenance work, repairs and safety checks
• Travelling to other sites when required and occasionally supporting emergency repairs outside of normal working hours

We’re Looking For Someone Who Is:

• Experienced in a maintenance operative, maintenance technician, handyperson, caretaker, facilities assistant or similar property maintenance role
• Skilled in general DIY, repairs, plumbing, painting, decorating, basic joinery or construction maintenance
• Confident carrying out routine maintenance checks and keeping accurate records
• A practical problem solver who can prioritise maintenance issues safely and effectively
• Friendly, reliable, conscientious and able to work well as part of a team
• Able to communicate clearly with colleagues, managers, contractors and service users
• Willing to travel when required and holds a full valid UK driving licence
• Ideally experienced within a healthcare, care home, hospital, education, residential or commercial maintenance environment
