Job summary

Dogs4Rescue in the North West of England is seeking a hands-on Site Maintenance & Facilities Operative to support across our Irlam and Accrington sites. This full-time role focuses on keeping kennels, pathways and equipment safe and well maintained for our rescue dogs.

You'll repair fencing, gates and structures, carry out joinery and general maintenance, liaise with managers on improvement works, and help ensure a secure, clean environment.

Qualifications

• Good maintenance, repair and DIY skills.
• Experience in fencing, joinery, carpentry or construction.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
• Proactive problem-solving and high safety standards.
• Comfortable working outdoors and around dogs.
• Gas, electrical or plumbing qualifications and experience.

Responsibilities

• Repair and maintain fencing, gates and site security.
• Carry out joinery and carpentry projects including pods and shelters.
• Perform general repairs and site maintenance.
• Assist with improvements to rescue facilities and dog living areas.

Site Maintenance & Facilities Operative – Full Time (Circa 40 hours per week)

Based across ourIrlam and Accringtonsites.

As the UK's pioneering kennel-free rescue, we've created a unique environment where dogs live together as a family, building confidence, learning social skills and getting a second chance at life. Every dog has a story, and we're looking for a practical, hands-on Site Maintenance & Facilities Operative to help write the next chapter.

Job Description

This is a varied role for someone who enjoys outdoor work, takes pride in fixing and building things, and wants to use their skills to make a real difference to the lives of rescue dogs.

What you'll do

• Repair and maintain fencing, gates and site security
• Carry out joinery and carpentry projects, including pods, shelters and outdoor structures
• Perform general repairs and site maintenance
• Assist with improvements to our rescue facilities and dog living areas
• Liaise with the relevant manager before starting improvement works, agreeing the best solution, expected outcome, timescales and budget before proceeding
• Identify and resolve maintenance issues quickly and safely
• Liaise with contractors and managers where specialist repairs, quotes or approvals are required
• Ensure the site remains safe, secure and well presented
• Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a safe, organised and serviceable condition
• Use Google Sheets and agreed systems to accurately record work carried out, materials used, orders placed and outstanding maintenance tasks

Qualifications

• Good all-round maintenance, repair and DIY skills
• Experience of fencing, joinery, carpentry or construction work
• Ability to work independently and manage your workload, prioritise and manage multiple tasks
• Practical problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to completing work safely and to a high standard
• Able to follow instructions, health and safety procedures, and agreed working practices
• Able to work within agreed plans, budgets and ordering processes, seeking approval before making changes or purchases
• Confident using Google Sheets or similar systems to update records clearly and accurately
• Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with colleagues, volunteers and external contractors
• Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
• Confident working safely around dogs in a busy rescue environment
• Gas qualifications and experience
