Job summary

Yolk Recruitment Ltd is helping a global manufacturer in Exeter recruit a Maintenance Manager. You will lead a large engineering function, directing engineers, technicians and team leaders to deliver planned and reactive maintenance across a major site.

You will drive improvements in reliability, equipment uptime and maintenance processes, while overseeing budgets, safety, and collaboration with production teams. The role includes strategic maintenance planning and staff development.

Qualifications

• Experience as Maintenance Manager or Engineering Manager in a manufacturing environment.
• Technical engineering background (apprentice-trained or qualified to HNC/HND/degree).
• Experience leading large multidisciplinary maintenance teams including supervisors or team leaders.
• Strong understanding of preventative and reactive maintenance, plant reliability and continuous improvement.
• Experience managing budgets, contractors, and improvement projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a maintenance department of engineers, technicians and team leaders.
• Oversee preventative and reactive maintenance across a large and varied manufacturing facility.
• Drive continuous improvement to increase reliability, reduce downtime and improve efficiency.
• Develop and implement maintenance strategies; identify opportunities to reduce costs.
• Manage maintenance KPIs, budgets, and department performance.
• Identify recurring equipment failures, perform root-cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
• Support machinery upgrades, capital projects and aging equipment replacement.
• Collaborate with production and senior management to align maintenance with manufacturing needs.
• Develop the engineering team's capabilities through training and performance reviews.
• Promote health and safety culture and ensure compliance with standards.
