Job summary

Marshalls plc, a leading UK manufacturer of building, roofing and landscaping solutions, is seeking a Maintenance Manager (Mechanical Lead) at Keele, England. You will own the mechanical discipline, lead maintenance across heavy plant, and drive a proactive preventive maintenance culture.

You will manage 8 craft engineers, ensure compliance with PSSR and safety regulations, and work toward operational excellence in a large manufacturing setting.

Qualifications

  • Time-served mechanical apprenticeship with NVQ Level 3 / ONC in Mechanical Engineering.
  • HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Take ownership of the site's mechanical discipline and lead daily maintenance across heavy plant machinery.
  • Drive a site-wide shift to a proactive, data-driven preventive maintenance culture.
  • Manage 8 craft engineers, champion mechanical engineering compliance and push for operational excellence.

So what's the mission?

Reporting to the Site Engineering Manager, you will take ownership of the site's mechanical discipline, leading daily maintenance operations across heavy plant machinery and driving a site-wide shift from reactive firefighting to a world-class, data-driven preventative maintenance culture. Reporting directly to the Site Engineering Manager, you will manage 8 craft engineers, champion mechanical engineering compliance, and push the department toward operational excellence.

What are the mission-critical skills?
  • Time-served Mechanical Apprenticeship with a formal NVQ Level 3 / ONC qualification in Mechanical Engineering
  • HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics is highly desirable
  • Strong technical expertise in industrial hydraulics, pneumatics, heavy gearboxes, power transmission, thermal plant / kiln systems, and machine safety / guarding
  • Solid understanding of UK Mechanical Compliance, Pressure Systems Safety Regulations (PSSR), and machinery safety regulations (IOSH / NEBOSH desirable)
  • 4+ years experience managing a mechanical engineering/maintenance team within heavy manufacturing, building products, ceramic processing, or an FMCG environment
  • Proven experience in utilizing CMMS platforms (SAP Maintenance Module strongly preferred) to drive mechanical asset care decisions
  • Strong knowledge of Lean methodologies, Root Cause Analysis coaching, and DMAIC / Six Sigma
  • Clear understanding of departmental budget management, OPEX spare parts inventory, and CAPEX requirements
  • Strong communication, coaching, and presentation skills across all business levels
