Job summary

United Plant Services is seeking a Mobile Maintenance Engineer to service and repair a range of diesel, petrol, and electric small plant at customer sites across Dorchester and surrounding areas.

You will diagnose faults, perform preventative maintenance, and maintain records while upholding safety standards and delivering excellent customer service. A relevant engineering qualification and field service experience are preferred, with the ability to work independently.

  • Engineering or technical qualification relevant to maintenance.
  • Experience in maintenance or field service role.
  • Strong hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems knowledge.
  • Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage workload.
  • Good organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • Customer-focused with strong communication.

Responsibilities

  • Service, maintain, diagnose and repair small plant and equipment.
  • Diagnose faults across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Respond to breakdowns and restore equipment to service.
  • Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) inspections.
  • Record work electronically and manage parts.
  • Maintain company vehicle and stock levels.
  • Build strong customer relationships through reliable service.
  • Comply with health and safety procedures.

The Opportunity

As a Mobile Maintenance Engineer, you'll play a key role in keeping customer equipment operating safely and efficiently. Working independently across customer sites, you will service, maintain, diagnose, and repair a wide range of small plant, agricultural, and ground care equipment.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Servicing and maintaining diesel, petrol, and electrically powered small plant, agricultural, and ground care equipment.
  • Diagnosing faults and carrying out repairs across mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Responding to breakdowns and restoring equipment to service efficiently.
  • Completing planned preventative maintenance (PPM) inspections and servicing activities.
  • Delivering exceptional customer service and resolving customer queries professionally.
  • Accurately recording all work electronically and ensuring required parts are ordered promptly.
  • Maintaining your company vehicle to a high standard and ensuring appropriate stock levels are carried.
  • Building and maintaining strong customer relationships through reliable and professional service.
  • Working in compliance with all customer, company, and health and safety procedures.

To succeed in this role, you'll ideally have:

  • A relevant engineering or technical qualification.
  • Previous experience in a similar maintenance or field service engineering role.
  • A strong understanding of hydraulic, mechanical, and electrical systems.
  • Excellent fault‑finding and diagnostic skills.
  • The ability to work independently and manage your own workload effectively.
  • Strong organisational and prioritisation skills.
  • A customer‑focused mindset with excellent communication skills.
  • A proactive and flexible approach to work.
