Job summary

Verteer is seeking a site-based Mechanical Maintenance Engineer for a busy food manufacturing site in Peterborough. You will provide day-to-day mechanical support, carry out planned maintenance, and respond to equipment issues to keep production running safely and reliably.

As the on-site engineer, you will interact with the customer, identify reliability improvements, read engineering drawings, and follow health and safety procedures while maintaining bearings, gears, pumps and hydraulics.

Qualifications

• Hands-on mechanical maintenance experience in FMCG/food manufacturing.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
• Experience with conveyors, bearings, gearboxes, motors and pumps.

Responsibilities

• Complete planned preventative maintenance according to site schedules.

Mechanical Maintenance Engineer

Location: Peterborough - site-based

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm

Contract: Permanent, full-time

The opportunity

An established engineering services provider is creating a new position for a site-based Mechanical Maintenance Engineer at a busy food manufacturing facility in Peterborough.

This is a hands-on role providing day-to-day mechanical engineering support across the site. You will be responsible for planned maintenance, responding to equipment issues and completing mechanical repairs to help keep production running safely and reliably.

As the dedicated on-site engineer, you will also build a strong working relationship with the customer and proactively identify genuine maintenance, repair and reliability-improvement requirements.

Key responsibilities

• Complete planned preventative maintenance in line with site PPM schedules
• Respond to mechanical breakdowns and engineering problems
• Carry out mechanical fault-finding, repairs and component replacement
• Complete routine filter and sleeve changes
• Maintain and repair bearings, valves, pumps and mechanical drive systems
• Work on conveyors, belts, chains and gearboxes
• Support the maintenance of hydraulic and pneumatic equipment
• Identify developing faults before they lead to breakdowns or production disruption
• Recommend appropriate remedial work and longer-term reliability improvements
• Record completed work and provide clear reports on outstanding requirements
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and mechanical schematics
• Follow site health and safety procedures and safe systems of work
• Maintain a professional and responsive relationship with the on-site customer

Essential experience

• Proven experience as a Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Maintenance Engineer within a food or FMCG manufacturing environment
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving ability
• Experience carrying out both planned and reactive maintenance
• Practical experience working with conveyors, bearings, chains, gearboxes, motors and pumps
• Knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems
• Experience repairing and replacing components on production machinery
• Good understanding of health and safety procedures and safe systems of work
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of site engineering issues
• A hands-on and proactive approach to maintenance and continuous improvement
