Maintenance Engineer - (Electrical)
Salary - £35,235 - £38,626 (Grade 6)
Hours - 37 hours per week
Contract type - full time, permanent
The post holder will be required to attend emergency call-outs out of normal working hours.
An experienced and qualified Maintenance Engineer is required within the Projects and Works Service, part of the City Assets Directorate within the City of Wolverhampton Council. The engineer will fulfill various electrical and mechanical engineering roles across properties including schools, offices, commercial buildings, housing, and other public structures within Wolverhampton.
Duties include:
- Supervision of reactive electrical maintenance with a good understanding of electrical systems.
- Knowledge of fire protection systems such as fire alarms, extinguishers, and some knowledge of gas suppression/sprinkler systems.
- Monitoring electrical and mechanical testing programmes, implementing rectification works when issues or risks are identified, using the City Council’s recording system.
- Working with the senior maintenance engineer to develop project proposals based on client briefs.
- Coordinating between maintenance contractors during projects, with some line management responsibility.
- Providing technical recommendations and concerns for further action based on surveys.
- Inputting data into existing property/facilities management systems.
Key skills for this role include:
- Strong electrical background – JIB graded Approved Electrician or equivalent.
- Qualified Supervisor experience with a recognised Electrical or Mechanical contractor is desirable.
- Experience supervising multiple maintenance contractors.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Providing technical expertise within the Projects and Works Service at Wolverhampton Civic Centre.
- Extensive knowledge of complex commercial building electrical systems.
- Ability to work independently.
- Using initiative to prevent building closures and providing flexible repair solutions.
- Ensuring compliance with Approved Document M.
- Understanding current standards, codes of practice, and legislation including CDM.
- Developing and implementing innovative concepts.
- Coordinating Mechanical and Electrical systems.
- Focusing on client needs and satisfaction.
- Representing the service professionally in meetings.
Other Duties:
- Performing any duties reasonably requested by your line manager within the role's broad parameters.
Qualifications, Skills, and Experience:
- Must meet the criteria of a JIB Approved Electrician.
- Test & Inspection qualifications (2391 / 2394 / 2395) or equivalent experience in building services.
- Proficiency in MS Office applications.
- Experience in at least three of the following areas: Industrial Buildings, Facilities Management, Food and Beverage, Leisure Buildings, Construction.
