Job summary

Imperial Recruitment Group is seeking a Maintenance Engineer (Canning) in Middlesbrough to lead maintenance on beverage processing lines. You will diagnose faults, perform preventative and reactive maintenance, and work with Production to maximise OEE. Experience in FMCG and canning is essential, with a strong lean and reliability mindset.

The role offers full-time permanent status, a dayshift pattern, and a salary up to £56,000 per annum. Flexibility may be needed to meet site needs.

Qualifications

• Time-served Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent.
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an Engineering discipline.
• Experience in FMCG, food, beverage, or manufacturing environments.
• Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
• Experience with automated production and packaging equipment.
• Good understanding of Reliability Engineering and RCA.
• Experience in a beverage or canning environment.
• Excellent communication, problem-solving and decision-making.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on canning, packaging, and bottling equipment.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults.
• Minimise downtime through fault finding and Root Cause Analysis.
• Support Reliability Programme with proactive maintenance and equipment improvements.
• Identify opportunities to improve asset reliability and performance.
• Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives to improve safety, reliability and efficiency.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using the CMMS system.
• Support equipment installations, upgrades, and engineering projects.
• Ensure compliance with Health & Safety, Quality, and Food Safety requirements.
• Collaborate with Production and Operations to maximise equipment performance and OEE.

Maintenance Engineer (Canning)

Salary: Up to £56,000 per annum

Location: Middlesbrough

Reporting to: - Engineering Manager

Hours: Monday Friday (days) (flexibility may be needed)

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative and reactive maintenance on canning and packaging equipment, and bottling equipment when required.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic faults.
• Minimise downtime through effective fault finding, root cause analysis, and Root Failure Analysis (RFA).
• Support the site's Reliability Programme through proactive maintenance and equipment improvement activities.
• Identify and implement opportunities to improve asset reliability, maintainability, and performance.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean Manufacturing principles to improve safety, reliability, quality, and efficiency.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records using the site's CMMS system.
• Support equipment installations, upgrades, and engineering projects.
• Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety, Quality, and Food Safety requirements.
• Work collaboratively with Production and Operations teams to maximise equipment performance and OEE.

Skills & Experience

Essential

• Experience within a beverage or canning environment.
• Time-served Engineering Apprenticeship or equivalent qualification.
• NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in an Engineering discipline.
• Experience within FMCG, food, beverage, or manufacturing environments.
• Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
• Experience with automated production and packaging equipment.
• Good understanding of Reliability Engineering principles, Root Cause Analysis, and continuous improvement methodologies.

Desirable

• Knowledge of PLC-controlled equipment.
• HNC/HND in Engineering.
• 18th Edition Electrical Qualification.
• Experience using a CMMS.
• Understanding of Lean Manufacturing tools and techniques.
• Experience participating in Root Failure Analysis (RFA) investigations and reliability improvement programmes.
