Job summary

VetPlus in Lytham, Lancashire, is seeking a proactive Maintenance Engineer to keep production machinery running safely and efficiently. You will perform planned maintenance, diagnose faults, and support upgrades across the site.

Working with the Head of Manufacturing & Engineering and other teams, you will help reduce downtime, improve equipment reliability, and uphold safety and quality standards through continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Maintenance engineering experience in manufacturing.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills.
• Knowledge of electrical systems and PLC fault diagnosis.
• Able to plan and complete preventive maintenance.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings and manuals.
• Hands-on problem-solving approach.
• Works with production, engineering, quality and support teams.
• Engineering qualification or apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
• Experience in regulated environments is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on production machinery.
• Diagnose faults and resolve breakdowns to minimise downtime.
• Monitor equipment performance and identify reliability improvements.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and documentation.
• Support machinery upgrades and new equipment installations.
• Coordinate repairs with suppliers and contractors.
• Assist in developing and maintaining SOPs.
• Contribute to site-wide improvements in machine performance and OEE.
• Promote safety, quality, and continuous improvement across the site.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00am-4:30pm

Salary: Up to £40,000 per annum

We are looking for a proactive and skilled Maintenance Engineer to join our manufacturing team in Lytham. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer who enjoys problem-solving, continuous improvement, and ensuring production equipment operates safely and efficiently.

Working closely with the Head of Manufacturing & Engineering and production teams, you will play a key role in maintaining machinery, reducing downtime, and supporting ongoing engineering and improvement projects across the site.

What You'll Be Doing

• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance and reactive repairs on production machinery.
• Diagnosing faults and resolving breakdowns efficiently to minimise operational downtime.
• Monitoring equipment performance and identifying opportunities to improve reliability and efficiency.
• Maintaining accurate maintenance records and documentation.
• Supporting machinery upgrades, new equipment installations, and continuous improvement projects.
• Working with suppliers and contractors to coordinate repairs, servicing, and maintenance activities.
• Assisting in the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures.
• Supporting improvements in machine performance and Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
• Promoting a strong culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement across the site.

About You

We're looking for someone who:

• Has previous maintenance engineering experience within a manufacturing or industrial environment.
• Possesses strong mechanical fault-finding and repair skills.
• Has knowledge of electrical systems and basic PLC fault diagnosis.
• Can plan and complete preventative maintenance activities effectively.
• Is confident interpreting technical drawings, manuals, and engineering documentation.
• Has excellent problem-solving skills and a practical, hands-on approach.
• Works well with colleagues across production, engineering, quality, and support functions.
• Holds a relevant engineering qualification, apprenticeship, or equivalent practical experience.

Experience within food, pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, or other regulated manufacturing environments would be advantageous.
