Job summary

VANRATH in Lisburn seeks a Maintenance Engineer to join a leading FMCG manufacturing operation. The role covers maintenance on PLC-controlled production and packaging equipment, with a focus on reliability and downtime reduction.

The ideal candidate has 3+ years in FMCG sectors, a Level 3 qualification in Electrical/Automation/Mechatronics, and strong fault-finding skills. The package includes excellent overtime, pension contributions, and long-term career progression.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs including English and Maths at Grade C or above.
  • Level 3 qualification in Electrical, Automation or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • 3 years' experience in FMCG, food or beverage manufacturing.
  • Strong fault-finding on electrical and mechanical systems.
  • Experience with PLC-controlled machinery and control systems.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and resolve equipment breakdowns to minimise downtime.
  • Carry out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance on PLC-controlled production machinery and packaging equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Support installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records using the Mobile Maintenance Management System.

Maintenance Engineer

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join a leading FMCG manufacturing operation in Lisburn.
This is an excellent opportunity for a time-served Electrical, Automation or Mechatronics Engineer to join a high-performing engineering team, working on a range of PLC-controlled production and packaging equipment within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The Role


As a Maintenance Engineer, you will play a key role in maintaining and improving the reliability of production equipment, minimising downtime and ensuring the smooth running of the manufacturing operation.
Your responsibilities will include:

  • Diagnosing and resolving equipment breakdowns to minimise production downtime.
  • Carrying out planned, preventative and reactive maintenance on PLC-controlled production machinery, packaging equipment and associated systems.
  • Inspecting equipment and identifying potential faults or issues before they impact production.
  • Supporting the installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Reading and interpreting electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Troubleshooting control systems and carrying out detailed fault-finding and root cause analysis.
  • Providing technical expertise to improve plant reliability, performance and efficiency.
  • Maintaining accurate records of all maintenance activities using the Mobile Maintenance Management System.
  • Updating maintenance records, job plans and technical documentation.
  • Working closely with Production, Quality and Engineering teams to support smooth day-to-day operations.
  • Ensuring all maintenance activities are completed in line with company policies, health & safety standards and statutory requirements.
About You


You will ideally have:

  • A minimum of 4 GCSEs including English and Maths at Grade C or above, or equivalent.
  • A recognised apprenticeship or Level 3 qualification in Electrical, Automation or Mechatronics Engineering.
  • At least 3 years' experience within FMCG, food or beverage manufacturing.
  • Strong electrical and mechanical fault-finding skills.
  • Experience working with PLC-controlled machinery and control systems.
  • The ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
  • Strong understanding of maintenance, troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
  • A strong commitment to health and safety.
  • The ability to work effectively across Production, Quality and Engineering functions.
Shift Pattern


The role operates on a 2 weeks days / 2 weeks nights rotation, with plenty of rest time built into the shift pattern.
The role also offers excellent overtime rates, providing the opportunity to significantly increase your earnings.
