Job summary

Distinct Consultancy Group is representing a Maintenance Engineer role for an FMCG/food manufacturing site in Blackburn. You will be hands-on, maintaining production equipment, reducing downtime and driving reliability improvements across the site.

The role requires strong electrical or mechanical skills, PLC fault finding experience, and an apprenticeship in Electrical Engineering. CMMS experience and HACCP/COSHH/GMP knowledge are desirable, with a focus on continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
• Respond to machinery breakdowns and fault finding (electrical & mechanical).
• Diagnose faults and implement corrective actions.
• Carry out PLC fault finding and support process control systems.
• Work on electrical control systems from switchgear through to software implementation.
• Record maintenance activity in CMMS and identify recurring faults.
• Drive RCA and implement measures to prevent repeat failures.
• Support and maintain the site's preventative maintenance strategy.
• Collaborate with Production/Management to minimise downtime.
• Liaise with engineering management for spare parts availability.
• Support building maintenance and wider site engineering activities.
• Maintain accurate records through CMMS.
• Mentor other engineers as required.
• Contribute ideas to improve reliability and efficiency.

Maintenance Engineer – FMCG / Food Manufacturing

£48,000 | Blackburn, Lancashire | 4 on / 4 off

Are you a Maintenance Engineer with a strong electrical or mechanical background and experience within FMCG or food manufacturing?

My client is looking for an experienced Maintenance Engineer to join its established engineering team at its Blackburn manufacturing site, offering a salary of £48,000 on a 4 on / 4 off shift pattern.

This is a hands-on engineering role where you'll play a key part in keeping production running efficiently, reducing downtime and driving improvements across the site.

The Role - Maintenance Engineer

Reporting to the Maintenance Team Leader, you'll work as part of a small, multi-skilled engineering team responsible for the reliability and availability of production equipment.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Carrying out planned preventative maintenance (PPM).
• Responding to machinery breakdowns and completing electrical and mechanical fault finding.
• Diagnosing faults and implementing effective corrective actions.
• Carrying out PLC fault finding and supporting process control systems.
• Working on electrical control systems from switchgear through to software implementation.
• Recording maintenance activity and identifying recurring faults.
• Driving Root Cause Analysis and implementing measures to prevent repeat failures.
• Supporting the site's preventative maintenance strategy.
• Working closely with Production and Factory Management to minimise downtime.
• Liaising with engineering management to ensure appropriate spare parts are available.
• Supporting building maintenance and wider site engineering activities.
• Maintaining accurate records through the CMMS.
• Supporting and mentoring other engineers where required.
• Contributing ideas and initiatives to improve reliability, efficiency and engineering processes.
• Working to high standards of Health & Safety, quality and engineering best practice.

What We're Looking For

• Strong electrical or mechanical engineering skills.
• Proven experience working with food processing or FMCG machinery.
• A solid background in electrical and mechanical fault finding.
• Experience with PLC fault finding and process control.
• Experience working with control panels, switchgear and associated electrical systems.
• An engineering apprenticeship with relevant qualifications such as BTEC ONC, HNC or HND in Electrical Engineering.
• Experience using CMMS systems.
• Knowledge of HACCP, COSHH and GMP principles.
• Experience with Root Cause Analysis and preventative maintenance.
• A proactive approach to continuous improvement and engineering best practice.
