Job summary

NT Engineering & Manufacturing in Kinross is seeking a time-served Mechanical Engineer to maintain plant and equipment, minimise downtime, and support continuous improvement in a fast-moving manufacturing environment. You will carry out planned maintenance, diagnose faults, and work with electrical engineers and contractors.

The role requires fault-finding skills, reading engineering drawings, and a full UK driving licence. Desirable: CMMS experience, welding, and condition monitoring.

Qualifications

  • Time-served or apprenticeship in mechanical engineering
  • HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering preferred
  • Experience in maintenance engineering within manufacturing/industrial environments
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • Experience with rotating equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, pumps, conveyors
  • Good understanding of preventative maintenance systems
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Full UK driving licence

Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance on mechanical plant and equipment
  • Respond to mechanical breakdowns, diagnose faults, and repair
  • Inspect and overhaul pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, motors, bearings, valves, hydraulics and pneumatics
  • Support continuous improvement projects to improve reliability and efficiency
  • Complete maintenance records using CMMS
  • Assist with installation, commissioning and modification of machinery
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety and environment procedures
  • Participate in root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
  • Collaborate with electrical engineers, production teams and external contractors
  • Maintain workshop and plant housekeeping
  • Participate in on-call or shift rotas where applicable

Job description

Working closely with the production and engineering teams, you will play a key role in minimising downtime, supporting continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring all maintenance activities are carried out to the highest standards of safety and quality.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on mechanical plant and equipment.
  • Respond promptly to mechanical breakdowns, diagnose faults, and complete effective repairs.
  • Inspect, maintain, and overhaul pumps, gearboxes, conveyors, motors, bearings, valves, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Support continuous improvement projects aimed at increasing equipment reliability and operational efficiency.
  • Complete maintenance records accurately using the company's maintenance management system (CMMS).
  • Assist with installation, commissioning, and modification of new machinery and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental procedures at all times.
  • Participate in root cause analysis of equipment failures and implement corrective actions.
  • Work collaboratively with electrical engineers, production teams, and external contractors where required.
  • Maintain high standards of housekeeping within workshop and plant areas.
  • Participate in on-call or shift rotas where applicable.
Skills and Experience
Essential
  • Time-served Mechanical Engineer or recognised Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship.
  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering (desirable but not essential depending on experience).
  • Proven experience in a maintenance engineering role within a manufacturing, industrial, processing, or production environment.
  • Strong fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
  • Experience working with rotating equipment, hydraulics, pneumatics, bearings, pumps, and conveyors.
  • Good understanding of preventative maintenance systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and technical documentation.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
Desirable
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Knowledge of CMMS software.
  • Experience with condition monitoring techniques.
  • Forklift, MEWP, or confined space certification.
  • Experience in food manufacturing, distilling, utilities, or heavy industry.

Working Hours

This is a full-time permanent position based in Kinross. Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, with flexibility to support planned maintenance shutdowns, overtime, or on-call duties as required.
