Job summary

Millennium Hotels Copthorne Merry Hill-Dudley is seeking a proactive Maintenance Assistant to join a small team at The Copthorne Merry Hill. You will assist in planned and reactive maintenance, and support painting and refurbishment tasks while keeping guest areas safe and tidy.

The role is fixed-term until 31/12/2026, offering 24 hours per week across three days. A flexible, on-call approach and good inter-department communication are essential in a busy hotel setting.

Qualifications

• Must be positive, efficient and motivated with a friendly approach and a good eye for detail and accuracy.
• Ability to develop good working relationships with other departments and communicate effectively with guests.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planned, reactive and preventative maintenance schedules when requested.
• Complete utility readings at required times daily.
• Work safely, conform to health and safety regulations (fire procedures, manual handling, COSHH).
• Maintain cleanliness and professionalism to minimise disruption to guests and colleagues.
• Determine quantities of materials and protect work areas before starting.
• Assist in upkeep of hotel areas, including painting, decorating and refurbishment as required.
• Be flexible with working patterns and participate in the on-call rota.

Are you a 'jack-of-all-trades' and like completing a variety of different tasks each day on the job? Would you consider yourself a proactive 'all-rounder' in maintenance who is good at troubleshooting and fixing things? The Copthorne Merry Hill is looking for a self-motivated, team-orientated worker to join their team of professionals - it would suit an individual who is already working in a similar role in a smaller property, ideally with a specialist painting and decorating qualification/experience.

Responsibilities of a Maintenance Assistant

• Assisting in planned reactive and preventative maintenance schedule when requested. The completing of utility readings at required times daily.
• Working safely at ALL times, conforming to statutory and company health and safety regulations especially with regards to fire procedures, manual handing, chemical usage and disposal of waste materials and reporting of accidents. Complying with other related regulations (e.g. COSHH)
• Working in a clean and professional manner ensuring minimum disruption to our guests and colleagues
• Determining accurate quantities of materials required and correctly protecting work areas from further damage before starting a job
• Assisting in the up-keep of hotel areas ensuring that - at all times - they are free from daily wear and tear as far as possible. This includes general painting and decorating and refurbishment works as required
• A positive approach to flexible working will be expected as working patterns will be changed from time to time to meet the hotel needs
• Be prepared to participate in the out of hours 'On Call' rota
• Carrying out any such other relevant duties which may be delegated from time to time by the Maintenance Manager

Personal Requirements

• You must be positive, efficient and motivated with a friendly approach and a good eye for detail and accuracy. We are looking for an individual who has the ability to develop good working relationships with other departments in the hotel, and crucially with the ability to communicate effectively and be customer focused.
• Successful applicants should be able to work independently using their initiative with minimal direction from the Maintenance Manager. Be flexible in their attitude to working and be capable of integrating themselves into a small maintenance team.
