Job description

Here at UPP we have an opportunity for a Maintenance Assistant to work as part of our Reading team in providing both a planned and responsive maintenance service.

This is a permanent role working 37.5 hours per week, working 5 days in 7. Shift pattern during Monday - Friday days on shift alternates between 0700-1500 and 1200 - 2000. Weekend days worked as part of rota'd days on will be 10am - 6pm. The salary is £28,100 per annum.

Role responsibilities as a Maintenance Assistant include:

  • Carry out reactive maintenance in accordance with the Service Level Agreement (SLA) and provide front line response.
  • Ensure that the environment is maintained in accordance with the SLA, including keeping the site clean and clear throughout the year.
  • Assist with the moving of refuse, white goods, mattresses, and furniture in a safe manner.
  • Assist with statutory testing including fire alarm testing, fire extinguisher, fire blanket and fire detector checks, water temperature monitoring, shower head cleaning, and emergency lighting checks.
  • Report any Health and Safety issues relating to the residence ensuring all information is passed to the relevant Manager(s).

We are looking for you to have:

  • Experience in a similar role and environment.
  • Great communication and organisation skills, along with the passion to do a great job.
  • A good understanding of operational procedures and safe working practices of building services and systems.
  • A good understanding of health and safety, with the ability to always work in a safe manner.
  • Preparedness to work (with notice) additional hours when needed, especially during the main student arrival and departure weekends.
