Job description

Debden Grange Retirement Village, based in Newport, Essex, is seeking a Maintenance Assistant with some gardening duties. This is a part-time role, Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week, plus an on-call rota as required.

As a Maintenance Assistant in our retirement village, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and satisfaction of our residents by maintaining and enhancing the physical environment of the community. Your responsibilities will include routine maintenance, responding to residents' service requests, and assisting with various projects to create a safe, comfortable, and attractive living space.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform regular inspections of buildings, equipment, and common areas.
• Ensure the proper functioning of lighting, elevators, and emergency systems.
• Respond promptly and efficiently to residents' maintenance requests.
• Maintain outdoor furniture and amenities in good condition and cleanliness.
• Communicate effectively with residents and staff regarding maintenance schedules and activities.
• Maintain grounds, including grassed areas, beds, woodlands, fences, roads, paths, and paved areas, to a high standard.
• Report any defects or faults that may compromise safety immediately.
• Conduct regular inspections and monthly checks of the Village with the Facilities Manager.
• Perform painting and decorating tasks.
• Treat roads and pathways with salt/grit during winter months when necessary.
• Ensure the structure, fixtures, fittings, and equipment are properly maintained.

• Previous experience in maintenance or a related field is preferred.
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Physical ability to lift, carry, and move heavy objects.
• Willingness to learn and adapt to new tasks and challenges.
