Job summary

Marie Curie UK's Glasgow Hospice is seeking a Maintenance Assistant to join the facilities team in a permanent, full-time role. You will carry out safety checks, monitor plant rooms and oxygen systems, and coordinate contractors to keep the hospice environment safe and welcoming for patients and families.

You'll use computerised systems for records and maintenance documentation, apply COSHH and safety guidelines, and work with clinical and admin teams to support high-quality care.

Qualifications

• Recent and relevant maintenance experience or Level 2 City & Guilds in a relevant trade.
• Full, current UK driving licence.
• Confident using computers to complete records and maintenance documentation.
• Knowledge of building management systems and willingness to learn.
• COSHH regulations knowledge and application.
• Strong health and safety awareness and safe working practices.
• Good communication and teamwork skills.
• Proactive, independent work style with initiative.

Help Keep Our Hospice Running Smoothly – Join Our Facilities Team

Are you a practical, hands‑on individual who takes pride in making a real difference behind the scenes? At our Glasgow Hospice, we are currently seeking a Maintenance Assistant to join our facilities team. Our Maintenance Assistants play a vital role in creating a safe, welcoming and well‑maintained environment for patients, families, visitors and colleagues every day.

What you will be doing:

No two days are the same in this varied and rewarding role. From carrying out essential safety and compliance checks, monitoring plant rooms and oxygen systems, and responding to maintenance issues, to coordinating contractors, supporting hospice operations and working closely with clinical and administrative teams, you'll be at the heart of keeping our hospice running smoothly. You'll also play an important part in supporting sensitive end‑of‑life processes with professionalism, dignity and respect, ensuring our patients and families receive the highest standard of care and support.

What we’re looking for:

• Recent and relevant maintenance experience, or a Level 2 City & Guilds qualification (or equivalent) in a relevant trade.
• A full, current UK driving licence.
• Confident using computers and digital systems to complete records, audits and maintenance documentation.
• An appreciation of modern building management and maintenance systems, and a willingness to learn new technologies.
• Knowledge of COSHH regulations and their application within a workplace environment.
• A good understanding of health and safety responsibilities and safe working practices.
• Awareness of risk assessment processes and the importance of identifying and managing risks effectively.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to build positive working relationships with colleagues, contractors and external stakeholders.
• A proactive and practical approach to problem‑solving, with the ability to work independently and use initiative.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a team and contribute to a supportive working environment.
• A commitment to delivering a high standard of service in a caring and professional hospice environment.
