Job summary

Virgin Hotels Edinburgh is seeking a hands-on Hotel Engineer to maintain and repair the hotel's facilities, equipment and systems. You will perform general maintenance, respond to guest requests, and support the proactive upkeep program to ensure safe, smooth operations.

We value good English communication, ability to work in a busy environment and teamwork. Experience in plumbing, electrical, HVAC or related areas is preferred, with Outlook and maintenance software familiarity.

Qualifications

• Previous experience working in a hotel Engineer or maintenance role.
• Proficient in general plumbing and electrical troubleshooting and repairs.
• Experience with building systems and safety procedures.
• Able to communicate clearly in English with guests and staff.

Responsibilities

• Completes assigned work orders for general repair within the set time frame to ensure hotel operations.
• Performs systematic checks and inspections to aid upkeep and prevent malfunctions.
• Responds promptly to guest maintenance requests and resolves issues.
• Maintains tools, spaces and equipment in safe, good condition.
• Assists in maintaining safety equipment and emergency procedures.
• Uses computer systems (ALICE/HOTSOS) to complete orders.
• Keeps a friendly, courteous demeanor at all times.
• Other duties as assigned by management.

The Details:

What exactly you will be doing…

• Completes assigned work orders for general repair within assigned time frame in order to achieve the utmost operational efficiency of the hotel, its safety and its equipment
• Performs systematic checks and inspections to aid in the upkeep of the hotel and assists in the established proactive maintenance program in order to prevent malfunctions, breakdowns and general depreciation
• Immediately and courteously responds to guests needs in order to repair and/or resolve room maintenance requests and problems as they arise
• Maintains tools, work spaces and equipment in safe, secure and good condition in order to reduce accidents and to prolong their use
• Assists department in maintaining safety equipment and emergency procedures for the safety of all guests and teammates
• Computer system knowledge to complete orders that are in a tracking system like ALICE or HOTSOS
• Maintains a friendly, cheerful and courteous manner at all times
• The Engineer will cover other duties as assigned, requested or deemed necessary by management

Background must-have:

• Previous experience working in a hotel Engineer or maintenance role.
• Good working knowledge in some of the following areas: General plumbing and electrical troubleshooting and repairs. Painting and decorating. Basic refrigeration and air conditioning knowledge. Plantroom equipment knowledge such us: boilers, fans, gas interlock systems, BMS systems, kitchen equipment.
• Ability to clearly and pleasantly communicate in English with guests, management/co-workers, both in person, on the telephone and through email.
• Need to be competent and able to use Outlook emails, Apps such as Alice/HMS, excel sheets and others.
• Current right to work in the UK.
