Job summary

The Bodmin Jail Hotel & Attraction is seeking a diligent maintenance professional to join our facilities team. You’ll perform routine repairs across plumbing, electrical, HVAC and carpentry, ensuring guest areas and staff spaces are safe and welcoming.

Working under the Facilities Manager, you’ll implement preventive maintenance, manage tools and records, and coordinate with housekeeping, F&B and management to minimize disruption to guests.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school training preferred.
• Proven maintenance experience, preferably in hospitality.
• Knowledge of safety protocols and OSHA considerations is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine maintenance tasks across plumbing, electrical, HVAC and carpentry to keep facilities in optimal condition.
• Implement a preventive maintenance schedule to address issues before they arise.
• Maintain outdoor areas and ensure property appearance meets standards.
• Diagnose problems, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions promptly.
• Respond to staff and guest maintenance requests in guest rooms, facilities, and public areas.
• Maintain inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies; keep records of activities and inspections.
• Ensure maintenance activities comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
• Collaborate with housekeeping, F&B and management to coordinate maintenance with minimal guest disruption.

The Role

As a key support to the Facilities Manager, you’ll help to ensure our properties shine with excellence. You'll play a crucial role in maintaining the highest standards of workmanship across all maintenance areas, strictly adhering to health and safety guidelines.

Responsibilities include

• Perform routine maintenance tasks such as plumbing repairs, electrical work, system maintenance, and carpentry to ensure all facilities are in optimal working condition
• Implement a preventive maintenance schedule to identify and address potential issues before they become major problems
• Maintain outdoor areas to a high level of cleanliness, including gardening, public areas, car park area and keeping the property appearance standards up
• Diagnose issues, identify root causes, and implement effective solutions to resolve maintenance problems promptly
• Respond promptly and efficiently to staff & guest requests for maintenance and repairs in guest rooms, facilities,public areas, and attraction facilities
• Maintain an organised inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies necessary for maintenance work and keep detailed records of maintenance activities, including work orders, repairs, and inspections
• Ensure that all maintenance activities adhere to safety regulations and industry standards, promoting a safe and secure environment for guests and employees
• Follow and adhere to safety protocols and be an advocate in and for regular safety training
• Collaborate with other departments, such as housekeeping, F&B and management, to coordinate maintenance activities that do not disrupt guest experiences

Required Skills & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical or trade school training in maintenance-related fields or industry experience to match this
• Proven experience in general maintenance, preferably in a hotel or hospitality setting
• Proficiency in basic plumbing, electrical, and HVAC systems
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Detail-oriented with a commitment to delivering high-quality work
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays
• Knowledge of safety protocols and OSHA regulations is a plus
