Job summary

StandardX is seeking a Magnet Engineer in the United Kingdom to own magnetic subsystems from design through to manufacture, test and integration for advanced accelerator projects.

The role requires deriving requirements, negotiating trade-offs with stakeholders, and rapid iteration in a fast-paced environment to deliver high-field magnets for beam control and system integration across front-end and FFA platforms.

Qualifications

• Experience designing high-field magnets in applications such as EV motors, drones, MRI machines, transformers, particle accelerators, or fusion reactors.
• Proficiency with CAD tools (OnShape, SolidWorks, Fusion360, NX, Catia or Creo).
• Experience with EM solvers such as Opera or ANSYS Maxwell.
• Some experience performing static structural FEA and validating models with test.
• Experience machining your own parts on a mill or lathe.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, analysis, manufacture, test, and integration of magnetic subsystems including iron core, solenoid coils and magnet positioning system.
• Derive your own requirements and negotiate with stakeholders as they evolve into hardware.
• Collaborate with accelerator physicists, systems engineers, and mechanical/electrical engineers to design magnets that focus and steer beams.
• Rapidly iterate on manufacturing processes and development tests in a fast-paced environment.
