Job summary

NHS Orkney is recruiting a Senior Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) for The Balfour in Orkney. The role supports the multidisciplinary team, delivering patient care under a Registered Nurse, and combines clinical, administrative and support duties to uphold high standards of care.

You must have SVQ3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent, and be willing to undertake training. This is a full-time, permanent post of 36 hours per week, open to UK residents.

The Position:

The Senior Healthcare Support Worker (HCSW) is a key member of the multidisciplinary team, supporting the delivery of patient care under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. The role involves a combination of clinical, administrative and support duties to ensure high standards of care are maintained.

The post holder will undertake a range of patient care activities, ensuring care is delivered safely, effectively and to an acceptable standard, while promoting a person-centred approach in line with NHS Orkney policies. They will contribute to maintaining a clean, safe and supportive environment for patients and staff.

The role also includes assisting with day-to-day administrative duties, working alongside specialist nurses to support patient pathways, including admissions onto TrakCare, ordering treatments, managing calls, preparing patient documentation and maintaining accurate records.

The post holder will be expected to participate in ongoing personal and professional development, including statutory and mandatory training, to maintain and improve standards of care.

The Candidate:

You will have previous experience in a relevant health or social care role, and hold an SVQ3 in Health & Social Care or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience. You will also be willing to undertake the training required to meet the needs of the role.

This post will be based at The Balfour

The successful candidate will work: Full Time 36 hours per week

It is a condition of this employment that you must live and remain a resident within the UK for the post in which you will be employed with NHS Orkney.

The salary for this post is Band 3 and if residing on Orkney, you’ll also receive a Distant Islands Allowance of £1,719 pro rata per annum, adding extra value to your rewarding career with us.
