Job summary

A leading engineering supplier in Newton Aycliffe is looking for a Mechanical Assembly Technician to perform manufacturing and repair tasks using various machine tools. The role involves ensuring workflow procedures, conducting milling and welding operations, and promoting workplace safety. Candidates should have high school qualifications and preferably an engineering apprenticeship, along with hands-on training. This full-time position requires adherence to health and safety policies.

Qualifications

  • High school qualifications are required.
  • Engineering apprenticeship is preferred.
  • On the job training will be provided.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure workflow procedures are followed.
  • Manufacture and repair mechanical assemblies.
  • Perform milling and welding operations.
  • Promote workplace safety and follow health policies.
  • Balance mechanical assemblies using dynamic balancing equipment.
  • Perform metalizing (metal spraying) techniques as needed.
  • Understand materials and applications as required.
  • Set up and perform tool-post grinding, broaching, and Babbitt bearing work.
  • Perform welding operations (MIG, TIG, torch and stick).
  • Lift, tighten, adjust and secure heavy objects with safety precautions.
  • Use hand-held and stationary power/non-power tools including band saws, belt sanders, grinders, files.
  • Follow all company H&S policies and promote a culture of safety.

The Role

Key Responsibilities
  • Ensure workflow procedures are followed.
  • Operate various machine tools to manufacture and repair mechanical assemblies.
  • Record all data necessary to produce and expected service and/or design results including sizes and illustrations.
  • Perform milling operations such as drilling, tapping, boring, and conventional milling and lathe work, using various engine lathes (e.g., horizontal and vertical mills and horizontal boring lathes).
  • Balance mechanical assemblies using dynamic balancing equipment.
  • Perform various metalizing (metal spraying) techniques as needed.
  • Understand materials and applications as required.
  • Set up and perform tool‑post grinding operations (e.g., precision surface facing), broaching procedures, and Babbitt bearing work.
  • Perform various welding operations, including setup and use of MIG, TIG, torch and stick welders.
  • Lift, tighten, adjust and/or secure heavy objects in order to perform work and/or to observe safety precautions.
  • Use various hand‑held and stationary power and non‑power tools, including but not limited to band saw, belt sanders, hand grinders, files, etc.
  • Ensure that all company H&S policies and procedures are followed to ensure the safety of yourself and your colleagues.
  • Promote a culture of working safely as routine.
