Job summary

Knowlton and Newman, part of the Rubix Group, is seeking a skilled tradesperson to join our team in a permanent, full-time capacity in Southampton. The role involves repairing, overhauling and maintaining pumps, motors and related mechanical assemblies across multiple sectors.

You will operate milling/turning equipment, perform welding and metal spraying, and ensure all data and drawings are captured for service results while strictly following safety procedures.

Qualifications

• Experience operating milling and turning machines.
• Able to read sizes and drawings accurately.
• Strong adherence to health and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

• Follow workflow procedures.
• Operate machines to manufacture and repair mechanical assemblies.
• Record data including sizes and illustrations for service/design results.
• Perform milling operations such as drilling, tapping, boring and conventional milling and lathe work.
• Balance mechanical assemblies using dynamic balancing equipment.
• Apply metalizing (metal spraying) techniques as required.
• Understand materials and applications for assigned tasks.
• Set up and perform tool-post grinding, broaching and bearing work.
• Perform welding operations with MIG, TIG, torch and stick welders.
• Lift and secure heavy objects safely and observe safety precautions.
• Use hand-held and stationary tools such as band saws, belt sanders and grinders.
• Adhere to all H&S policies and promote safe working culture.

Job Purpose / Summary

Knowlton and Newman, part of the Rubix Group, provide 24/7 engineering services. We repair, overhaul, install, and maintain pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, hydraulic equipment and cover a wide range of industrial equipment for customers across multiple sectors

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure workflow procedures are followed.
• Operate various machines tools to manufacture and repair mechanical assemblies.
• Record all data necessary to produce and expected service and/or design results including sizes and illustrations.
• Perform milling operations such as drilling, tapping, boring, and conventional milling and lathe work, using various engine lathes (e.g., horizontal and vertical mills and horizontal boring lathes).
• Balance mechanical assemblies using dynamic balancing equipment.
• Perform various metalizing (metal spraying) techniques as needed.
• Understand materials and applications as required.
• Set up and perform tool-post grinding operations (e.g., precision surface facing), broaching procedures, and Babbitt bearing work.
• Perform various welding operations, including setup and use of MIG, TIG, torch and stick welders.
• Lift, tighten, adjust and/or secure heavy objects in order to perform work and/or to observe safety precautions.
• Use various hand-held and stationary power and non-power tools, including but not limited to band saw, belt sanders, hand grinders, files, etc.
• Ensure that all company H&S policies and procedures are followed to ensure the safety of yourself and your colleagues.
• Promote a culture of working safely as routine.
