Job summary

Forged Solutions Group in Blaenavon, South Wales, is seeking a skilled machinist to join the machine shop team. You will operate manual and CNC turning lathes, read engineering drawings, and ensure parts are produced to exact specifications with first-time quality.

The role requires experience in heavy manufacturing, good attention to detail, and the ability to work across shifts. You will support continuous improvement, logging data, and maintaining clean, safe work areas.

Qualifications

• Experience in heavy manufacturing with focus on machining processes.
• Manual and CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Ability to read 2D engineering drawings to correct tolerances.
• Familiar with machining alloy materials and associated tooling.
• Computer literacy and basic data recording.

Responsibilities

• Operate manual vertical turning lathes and CNC turning lathes to produce parts.
• Set tooling and read/interpret drawings to ensure first‑time quality.
• Record production throughput and dimensional reports in the system.
• Engage in TPM/5S and continuous improvement activities.
• Support quality investigations with cross‑functional teams.
• Maintain housekeeping and safety standards in the workplace.

Job Function: OperationsJob Location: Blaenavon - South WalesHours of Work: 39.5 Hours - 3 ShiftsClosing Date: Open until filledJob Purpose:To work as part of a team to process product through the machine shop that is produced right first time and that is delivered to the customer in line with their expectations and requirements.Principle Accountabilities:• Work as part of a team to achieve departmental KPI’s with respect to Right First Time (RFT), On Time in Full (OTIF) Productivity etc• Operate manual vertical turning lathes and CNC vertical and horizontal turning lathes to process product in line with the method of manufacture (MoM) ensuring that the relevant standard operating procedure (SoP’s) is followed at all times.• Operating the Mazak 5 axis Mill turning machines to process product in line with the method of manufacture (MoM) ensuring that the relevant standard operating procedure (Sop’s) is followed at all times.• Read and interpret engineering drawings to ensure a conforming product produced to the customer specification• Setting of tooling• Record on a daily basis key data and information in accordance with the relevant system and/or process including but not limited to logging production throughput data onto EFACS, raising non-conformance notes, creating and storing data records, writing dimensional reports etc.• Encourage and actively contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by performing daily TPM, and 5S activities.• Be actively involved in any process improvement or quality investigation with regard to machine practices or non-conforming product including working with other functions including but not limited to Engineering and Maintenance to help identify machining issues, develop solutions and implement improvements.• To achieve required Quality Standard, through strict adherence to policies, procedures and documentation.• Reading and understanding the appropriate Risk Assessments and Work Instructions including assisting in their preparation as necessary.• Support and promote a Health & Safety (H&S) culture by complying to all aspects of including ensuring that Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements are adhered to at all times.• Maintain working environment to expected levels of housekeeping and organisation at all times.• Undertake other tasks within capabilities, in any department across the business, as requested by the Manager / Supervisor.Person Specification:Minimum Criteria• Experience of working within heavy manufacturing• Manual Machining experience both manual and CNC• Able to read and interpret engineering drawings (2D) detailed written instructions• Familiar with machining special alloy materials• Computer literateDesirable Experience/Qualifications• Time served apprentice• Programming ExperiencePersonal Skills and Abilities (Must have)• Flexible, and promote good working practices.• Excellent time management and organisational skills• Attention to detail• Excellent verbal and written communication skills• Good interpersonal skills, particularly team working• Ability to achieve deadlines and targets consistently• Ability to work under own initiative• High self-motivation and determination to succeed• Challenge the status quo to improve business productivity and performance.• Process focussed and compliant
