Job summary

Ambitek Limited in Salford is seeking an experienced Machine Shop Engineer to join our client’s manufacturing team. You will set up and operate 3-, 4- and 5-axis vertical milling machines to produce high-quality components to specification and on schedule, and edit CNC programmes at the machine when required.

Reporting to the Machine Shop Team Leader, you will ensure tooling and documentation readiness, inspect parts with CNC and manual CMM equipment, carry out routine maintenance, and support

Qualifications

• Proven experience in CNC milling and setting up 3-, 4- and 5-axis machines.
• Experience editing CNC programs at the machine.
• Familiarity with Fanuc controls and machining practices.

Responsibilities

• Set up and prove out jobs on 3-, 4- and 5-axis vertical milling machines, including securing first-off approval.
• Operate machines following setup, maintaining quality and consistency throughout production runs.
• Edit CNC programmes at the machine where required.
• Ensure tooling, fixtures and job documentation are prepared and available to meet production requirements.
• Inspect finished components against engineering drawings using CNC and manual CMM equipment.
• Carry out routine machine maintenance to support safe and efficient operation.
• Operate multiple machines where production requirements allow.
• Escalate engineering and production issues to Team Leaders, Production Planning, Maintenance and Engineering.

The Opportunity

Our client, a well-established manufacturing business, is looking for an experienced Machine Shop Engineer to join their team.

£18–£20 per hour, depending on experience | CIS or Umbrella

This is a hands‑on role focused on setting and operating 3, 4 and 5‑axis vertical milling machines, with responsibility for producing high- quality components to specification and on schedule. You’ll also be expected to edit CNC programmes at the machine when required.

Reporting to the Machine Shop Team Leader, you’ll play an important role in maintaining quality, meeting production targets and supporting continuous improvement across the machine shop.

About You

Essential Requirements

• Proven experience setting and operating CNC milling machines across 3, 4 and 5‑axis applications.
• Experience editing CNC programmes at the machine.
• Experience with Fanuc controls.
• A sound understanding of engineering principles, machining methods and manufacturing practices.
• Basic IT skills, including confidence navigating file directories and network drives.
• A logical, methodical approach to problem‑solving, with a strong sense of urgency and a committed attitude to delivering results.
