Job summary

Ambitek Limited is seeking an experienced Machine Shop Engineer to set and operate 3, 4 and 5 axis vertical milling machines, primarily focusing on setup and run of production parts. You will edit programmes at the machine and ensure first-off approvals for quality parts.

You’ll report to the Team Leader and be responsible for maintaining quality, tooling readiness, and adherence to H&S policies while supporting continuous improvement in the shop.

Qualifications

• Completed engineering apprenticeship.
• Proven experience setting and operating CNC milling machines (3,4,5 axis).
• Able to edit CNC programmes at the machine.

Responsibilities

• Set and prove out jobs on 3, 4 and 5 axis vertical milling machines, including getting a first-off approved.
• Run machines after setting, maintaining quality throughout the production run.
• Edit CNC programmes where required.
• Inspect finished parts for drawing conformance and use CMMs for inspection.
• Carry out routine machine maintenance and keep tooling ready.

Job description

Our client, a well-established manufacturing business, is looking for an experienced Machine Shop Engineer to set and operate 3, 4 and 5 axis vertical milling machines. The role is mainly setting and operating. You will also be expected to edit programmes when needed.

You’ll report to the Machine Shop Team Leader and be responsible for producing quality parts to instruction and on time.

Key Responsibilities

• Set and prove out jobs on 3, 4 and 5 axis vertical milling machines, including getting a first-off approved
• Run machines after setting, maintaining quality throughout the production run
• Edit CNC programmes where required
• Make sure tooling, fixtures and job information are prepared and available when needed
• Inspect finished parts for drawing compliance using CNC and manual CMM machines
• Carry out routine machine maintenance
• Run more than one machine where possible
• Raise engineering issues with Team Leaders, Production Planning, Maintenance and Engineering
• Help solve problems and suggest manufacturing and methods improvements
• Work safely and follow all H&S policies, and support 5S and TPM in the machine shop

About You

Essential

• Completed engineering apprenticeship
• Proven experience setting and operating CNC milling machines (3, 4 and 5 axis)
• Experience with Fanuc controls, or Mazak (desirable)
• Able to edit programmes at the machine
• Good understanding of engineering practices and machining methods
• Basic computer skills, comfortable with directory structures and network drives
• Logical approach to problem solving, with a good sense of urgency and a dedicated attitude

Desirable

• Mazak control experience
• Familiarity with CMM software
