Job description

M&E Quantity Surveyor

Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire

Salary: Competitive salary plus car/car allowance, pension and benefits

Employment: Permanent

The Opportunity

Parkinson Gray Associates is working with an established national Mechanical and Electrical Building Services Contractor to recruit an experienced M&E Quantity Surveyor for its Leeds operation.

Our client is a highly respected name within the building services industry, with an excellent reputation for delivering technically challenging mechanical and electrical installations across a range of commercial construction sectors.

With an established regional presence and a strong pipeline of secured and prospective projects, the business is looking to strengthen its commercial team through the appointment of an experienced building services Quantity Surveyor.

This is a specialist M&E Quantity Surveying position. Applicants must have demonstrable experience working commercially with mechanical and/or electrical building services installations, ideally within an M&E contracting environment.

The Role

Working alongside experienced Project Managers and the wider commercial team, you will take responsibility for the commercial management of mechanical and electrical building services projects, ensuring effective cost control, contractual compliance and the successful financial delivery of contracts.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing the commercial aspects of mechanical and electrical building services projects from contract award through to final account.
  • Preparing and submitting interim valuations, applications for payment and final accounts.
  • Managing subcontractor procurement, appointments, valuations and payments.
  • Identifying, pricing and agreeing variations and additional works.
  • Monitoring project expenditure, forecasting costs and reporting on financial performance.
  • Preparing and maintaining accurate cost value reconciliations (CVRs).
  • Identifying and managing commercial risks and opportunities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Working closely with Project Managers, Engineers and site teams to ensure effective commercial control.
  • Reviewing contractual documentation and ensuring compliance with relevant contract conditions.
  • Negotiating and agreeing final accounts with clients and subcontractors.
The Candidate

We are looking for an experienced Quantity Surveyor with a proven background in the mechanical and electrical building services sector.

Experience specifically within M&E/MEP building services is essential. General construction Quantity Surveying experience alone will not be sufficient for this position.

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience working as an M&E Quantity Surveyor for a mechanical, electrical or combined building services contractor.
  • A sound understanding of mechanical and/or electrical building services installations and their associated commercial requirements.
  • Experience managing the commercial delivery of building services packages on commercial construction projects.
  • A good working knowledge of standard forms of construction contract, including JCT and/or NEC.
  • Experience preparing valuations, managing variations, undertaking cost reporting and negotiating final accounts.
  • Strong commercial awareness and the ability to identify and manage contractual and financial risks.
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the confidence to engage with clients, subcontractors and internal project teams.
  • Relevant Quantity Surveying qualifications would be advantageous, although practical experience within the M&E contracting sector is equally important.

Please note: This vacancy is specifically for a building services specialist. Candidates whose experience is exclusively within general building, civil engineering, infrastructure or residential construction, without relevant mechanical or electrical building services experience, will not meet the requirements of the position.

What's on Offer?

An opportunity to join a respected national M&E contractor with an established Leeds operation, a strong order book and a reputation for delivering high-quality building services projects.

You will work within an experienced commercial and operational team, taking responsibility for a varied portfolio of projects and contributing directly to their successful financial delivery.

A competitive remuneration package is available, including a company car or car allowance, pension and associated benefits.
