Job summary

McGregor Boyall partners with a UK building services and engineering contractor to recruit a Mechanical and/or Electrical Estimator. The role suits an experienced estimator ready to progress or a senior estimator capable of running tenders independently.

You will review drawings, prepare take-offs, price packages, and liaise with suppliers and project teams while identifying risks and cost variations. A hands-on, technically strong candidate will deliver safe, commercially viable estimates on

Qualifications

• Experience in mechanical or electrical estimating within building services/MEP.
• Strong technical knowledge of M/E systems and installation methods.
• Ability to interpret drawings and complete take-offs for detailed costs.
• Experience pricing building services packages and installation works.
• Strong commercial awareness with attention to detail and organisation.
• Understanding of site delivery, fit-outs and complex construction environments.
• Experience with live/phased projects, data centres or mission-critical environments.

An established UK building services and engineering contractor I'm working with are looking for a Mechanical and/or Electrical Estimator to join their team.

This opportunity would suit an experienced Estimator looking to progress or a Senior Estimator capable of managing tenders independently.

Key Responsibilities

• Review drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Complete detailed measurements and quantity take-offs.
• Prepare accurate, competitive estimates for mechanical or electrical packages.
• Price installation works, materials and associated requirements.
• Obtain and evaluate supplier and subcontractor quotations.
• Identify risks, scope gaps, exclusions and potential cost variations.
• Consider installation methods, site constraints and project phasing.
• Liaise with project teams, suppliers and subcontractors throughout the tender process.
• Support tender reviews, handovers and pricing queries.

Requirements

• Experience in mechanical or electrical estimating within the building services or MEP sector.
• Strong technical knowledge of mechanical or electrical systems and installation methods.
• Ability to interpret drawings, complete take-offs and build up detailed costs.
• Experience pricing building services packages and associated installation works.
• Good commercial awareness, attention to detail and organisational skills.

The Ideal Candidate needs to be a hands-on, technically strong individual who can take ownership of the estimating process and understands the practicalities of delivering building services works safely, efficiently and commercially on site.
