Job summary

Mulberry Academy St Leonards is seeking a dedicated Support Assistant to work with looked-after children across the secondary school. You will collaborate with teaching staff, the Designated Teacher for Looked-After Children, SENCO and safeguarding colleagues to provide targeted academic, pastoral and mentoring support.

Qualifications

• Experience of supporting pupils who experience barriers to learning.
• Experience of mentoring.
• An understanding of the academic and pastoral needs of secondary-aged pupils.
• A willingness to develop knowledge and understanding of the specific needs of looked-after and previously looked-after children.
• Understanding of safeguarding and the importance of professional boundaries.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day academic and pastoral support to identified pupils.
• Deliver regular mentoring sessions and build positive, trusting relationships with pupils.
• Support attendance, behaviour and wellbeing and escalate safeguarding concerns as required.
• Help pupils set realistic short- and long-term goals and monitor progress.
• Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, safeguarding staff and other professionals.
