Job description

Purpose of the role

ZSL London Zoo is offering an exciting opportunity for a Postal Services Operative to join our Grounds & Logistics team. In this vital role, you’ll play a key part in supporting the smooth operation of postal and courier services across the organisation. Your knowledge of HMRC commodity codes, experience with courier booking and management systems, and attention to logistical detail will contribute directly to ZSL’s efficiency and success.

You will be instrumental in helping the team achieve departmental goals through a mix of hands-on responsibilities and behind-the-scenes coordination, ensuring that mail, parcels, and essential goods move accurately and efficiently to support our conservation mission.

Key responsibilities:

  • Mailroom Operations:Handle daily responsibilities within the mailroom, including the accurate and timely sending and receiving of mail and parcels, while providing a helpful and professional service to both staff and couriers.
  • HMRC Compliance and Courier Bookings:Maintain a strong working knowledge of HMRC commodity codes to ensure accurate parcel documentation and compliance with current regulations, adapting quickly to changes in legislation when booking couriers.
  • Vehicle Operation:Operate a range of vehicles and equipment safely and responsibly, including forklifts, vans, trucks, and cars, in line with training and site safety requirements.
  • Administrative and Communication Tasks:Use Microsoft Office to create and amend documents and communicate professionally via email with internal teams and external contacts, ensuring accurate and timely information sharing.

About You

  • Experience using a franking machine or working in similar environments involving postal activities.
  • AdvancedMS office packages skills, specifically Excel and PowerPoint or equivalent software packages will be acceptable.
  • Experience and understanding of HMRC commodity codes and booking couriers nationally and internationally.
  • Ability to follow a process and work on their own initiative to solve problems and see tasks through to completion.
  • Understanding of postal activities that include franking letters and mail, sending parcels and arranging courier bookings.
  • Full clean driving license, with at least 1 year of driving experience.Training for forklift driving will be provided.
