Job summary

East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust is seeking a Consultant Pathologist to join the cellular pathology team at The Lister Hospital, Stevenage, on a fixed-term basis. The post involves surgical cutup, reporting, cytology, and QA activities with 10 programmed activities and no on-call commitment.

You will work with the team of 9 consultants, contribute to CPD, audits, and service development, and mentor junior staff while supporting flexible working where possible.

Qualifications

• Participate in surgical cutup, surgical reporting, cytology reporting and frozen section reporting.
• Advise and be available for consultation on clinical matters with colleagues, GPs and Trust staff.
• Participate in the training of Clinical fellows.
• Interpret results and advise on further investigations where necessary.
• Participate in the management of the service and set clinical priorities with pathology management.
• Lead laboratory staff on clinical matters and day-to-day case handling.
• Participate in audit, accreditation and quality assurance schemes.
• Undertake Continuing Professional Development (CPD) as required by the Royal College of Pathologists.
• Comply with Trust mandatory training program.
• Work with colleagues on strategic direction and administrative duties.
• Advise on changes in methodologies or new equipment, consumables or tests.

Responsibilities

• Participate in surgical cutup, reporting and cytology reporting to ensure high-quality pathology services.
• Consult with clinical teams and GP colleagues on patient cases when needed.
• Mentor and train Clinical fellows within the department.
• Interpret results and determine appropriate further investigations.
• Support service management by helping set priorities and resolving operational issues.
