Job summary

Xander Hendrix Healthcare is seeking a dedicated Locum/Fixed-Term Consultant Gastroenterologist to join an expanding NHS team in Cumbria. The post supports inpatient and outpatient care, with an Endoscopy Suite, 24/7 GI bleed service, and MDTs.

You will participate in the Consultant of the Week rota, perform endoscopy, lead clinics, and teach trainees, with opportunities for subspecialist interests; relocation assistance is available.

Qualifications

• Full GMC registration with a licence to practise.
• Inclusion on the GMC Specialist Register in Gastroenterology / GIM, or eligible within 6 months of interview.
• MRCP (UK) or recognised equivalent.
• Demonstrated competence and independent decision‑making in clinical gastroenterology and acute GI bleed management (therapeutic endoscopy).
• Active participation in clinical audit, patient safety initiatives, and quality improvement.
• Exceptional communication, multidisciplinary collaboration, and leadership skills.
• Willingness to travel across Cumbria sites and reside within a commutable distance (<30 minutes).

Responsibilities

• Inpatient Care: participate in the Consultant of the Week rota for acute gastroenterology beds and referrals.
• Endoscopy Services: perform planned diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopy sessions with modern scope systems.
• Emergency Service: contribute to 24/7 on‑call GI bleed rota.
• Outpatient Clinics: run two outpatient clinics per week (general gastroenterology + specialist clinics).
• MDT Working: participate in regional and specialist MDTs (Lower GI, UGI, HPB, IBD, Clinical Nutrition).
• Quality Improvement & Governance: engage in audits, incident reporting, peer review, and service development.
• Teaching & Supervision: mentor medical students, trainees, foundation doctors, and ACPs.
