Job description

Job Title: Live-In Caretaker
Location: Islington, London
Salary: £24,000 per annum + One-Bedroom Apartment Provided
Working Hours:

  • Monday: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM

  • Tuesday: 9:00 AM – 6:30 PM

  • Wednesday: 8:00 AM – 5:30 PM

  • Thursday: 9:00 AM – 7:30 PM

  • Friday: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM

  • Saturday: 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM (every second Saturday)
    Additional hours may be required to fulfil duties.

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Live-In Caretaker to manage the day-to-day operations and maintenance of a residential estate in Islington. The role includes overseeing contractors, handling residents' requests, ensuring the cleanliness and safety of the premises, and serving as the main point of contact for all estate matters. A strong sense of responsibility, excellent interpersonal skills, and a proactive approach to maintenance and resident support are essential.

Key Responsibilities
General Supervision & Resident Relations
  • Provide courteous and helpful assistance to all residents.

  • Build rapport with residents and act as the key on-site contact.

  • Monitor and manage contractors on-site, ensuring work is completed to a high standard.

  • Address noise complaints or disturbances with diplomacy and professionalism.

  • Patrol the estate twice daily (including one evening check).

  • Maintain vigilance with regard to security systems and signs of intruders.

  • Ensure secure access to plant rooms, electrical areas, and roof access points.

  • Check operation of fire exits, entry systems, emergency lighting, and smoke detection systems.

  • Clean all internal and external communal areas including lifts, porches, entrance doors, and staircases.

  • Maintain the cleanliness of the estate, including removal of junk mail and cobwebs.

  • Log faults, contractor visits, resident complaints, and notable events in the daily logbook.

  • Replace light bulbs and report any unresolved faults to the managing agents.

  • Maintain security surveillance and report suspicious activities.

  • Oversee refuse and recycling compliance; maintain tidy bin areas.

  • Clean all common areas thoroughly, including vacuuming and dusting.

  • Inspect fire doors, emergency lighting, and smoke ventilation systems.

Person Specification
  • Experience in residential caretaking, facilities management, or estate supervision.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

  • High attention to detail and excellent organisational ability.

  • Basic understanding of building systems (e.g., lighting, door entry, CCTV).

  • Trustworthy, reliable, and self-motivated.

  • Physically able to undertake cleaning and maintenance tasks.
