Job summary

Sugarman Health and Wellbeing Limited is seeking a Live in Carer in Birmingham. The role involves supporting a client with a traumatic spinal cord injury, using an electric wheelchair, and assisting with daily living in a home setting. Shifts are 7AM-7PM, 2 weeks on/2 weeks off, with a weekly rate of £1025.64.

Drivers with an automatic licence are preferred due to mobility needs. The role is full-time in Birmingham (B92). Training, DBS processing, and weekly PAYE/Umbrella pay are provided.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 months of professional UK Care experience.
  • Complex Care experience preferred, but not mandatory.

Responsibilities

  • Personal care, including bowel care and assistance in bed.
  • Help and support with physiotherapy exercises for arms and legs.
  • Support in the kitchen (service user enjoys cooking but requires assistance).
  • Assistance with eating, as swallowing can be difficult.
  • Accompanying them to pub visits, meals out with family, and holidays.
  • Communication awareness: patient and confident in communication.

About the role

We are looking for a reliable, patient and understanding carer, preferably someone experienced with spinal injuries or complex care needs. You must be comfortable working in a home environment, supporting both independence and safety. You will be supporting our service user living with atraumatic spinal cord injury resulting in paralysis from the chest down. Our client uses anelectric wheelchairand requires support with a range of daily living activities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Communication awareness: their speech can sometimes be difficult to understand, and they may speak louder to make themselves clearer—this is not aggression, so applicants should be patient and confident in communication
Requirements for the Role:
  • Here at Sugarman Health and Wellbeing, we are looking for an outgoing, bubbly candidatewho can show their best assets in providing the highest quality of support.
  • A minimum of 6 months of professional UK Care experience.
  • Complex Care experience preferred, but not a mandatory need.
  • To provide the correct compliance documents, including updated Right to Work and original DBS certificate.
