Job summary

G-Research is seeking a Linux Engineer to build and evolve the Linux platforms (RHEL and Ubuntu) that underpin our compute environment in London. You’ll work across OS builds, provisioning, observability and security to enable scalable, high‑impact research.

The role emphasizes automation with Ansible, IaC, vulnerability response and performance tuning, plus exploring agentic AI‑driven operations to move the platform toward autonomous, closed‑loop operations.

Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience with Linux systems (RHEL/Ubuntu).
• Deep knowledge of Linux internals (boot process, kernel modules, filesystems).
• Kernel optimisation and performance tuning considered a plus.
• Knowledge of eBPF for observability and security enforcement is desirable.
• Strong Python programming skills.
• Experience with Ansible and automation practices.
• Understanding of CIS benchmarks and security hardening.
• Interest in AI-driven operations is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Building, releasing and maintaining core Linux OS images across the estate.
• Developing provisioning and lifecycle management systems (PXE boot, kickstart, cloud-init).
• Designing and maintaining APIs, databases and packaging tooling used across the firm.
• Applying Infrastructure as Code practices, primarily using Ansible, to automate deployments.
• Leading vulnerability response, including CVE triage and kernel and package remediation.
• Helping design agentic frameworks for autonomous detection and remediation.
• Improving observability and telemetry to track OS health, provisioning and compliance.
