Job summary

G-Research in London is seeking a Linux Engineer to build, maintain and evolve the Linux platforms powering our compute environment. You’ll work across OS builds, provisioning and tooling to support large-scale quantitative research.

You’ll join an environment that values deep exploration, AI-enabled operations, and strong collaboration, with opportunities to influence security, observability and performance across the stack.

Qualifications

• Hands-on Linux experience with RHEL and Ubuntu.
• Deep knowledge of Linux internals: boot process, kernels, filesystems.
• Kernel optimisation and performance tuning experience desired.
• Knowledge of eBPF for observability and security is a strong plus.
• Strong Python programming skills.
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Ansible) and automation.
• Understanding of CIS benchmarks and Linux security.
• Interest in AI-driven operations is beneficial.
• Problem-solving mindset and collaboration are essential.

Responsibilities

• Build and maintain Linux OS images across the estate.
• Develop provisioning and lifecycle systems (PXE boot, kickstart, cloud-init).
• Design and maintain APIs, databases and packaging tooling.
• Apply IaC practices using Ansible to automate deployments.
• Lead vulnerability response including CVE triage and remediation.
• Help design agentic frameworks for autonomous detection and remediation.
• Improve observability and telemetry for OS health, provisioning and compliance.
