Job summary

KONE is seeking a Lift Engineer Improver to join our East Anglia team, covering the Cambridge area. You will learn on the job while supporting experienced engineers with maintenance, minor repairs, and safety inspections on a variety of lift systems.

This development-focused role offers training toward NVQ3 in Lift Engineering, with a clear progression to becoming a qualified engineer, plus a company van and fuel card, travel pay and generous holiday and flexible benefits.

Qualifications

• Some experience within the lift industry or a relevant engineering background.
• Willingness to learn and develop within a hands-on role.
• Full UK driving licence required.

Responsibilities

• Support experienced engineers with planned maintenance, minor repairs and safety inspections across lift systems.
• Shadow service routes and assist fault finding.
• Gradually take on hands-on maintenance tasks and prepare tools and equipment.
• Complete basic service documentation and help keep systems running safely and efficiently.

We’re currently looking for Lift Engineer Improver to join our team in East Anglia, covering the Cambridge area.

For this role, you’ll need to be located in or near Cambridge to support the area effectively.

What’s an Improver?

Someone with the right attitude, some hands-on or technical foundation, and the drive to learn - but who isn’t fully qualified yet.

Think of it as the stage between: Apprentice (learning basics) → Improver (building practical competence) → Qualified Engineer

As a Lift Service Improver, you’ll support experienced engineers in delivering planned maintenance, minor repairs, and safety inspections across a variety of lift systems. Spending your time out on site, you’ll shadow service routes, assist with fault finding, and gradually take on hands-on maintenance tasks, learning how to work with different lift types, control systems, and components. You’ll help prepare tools and equipment, complete basic service documentation, and play a key role in keeping systems running safely and efficiently.

This is a development-focused role where you’ll build strong technical skills, gain a solid understanding of industry safety standards, and work towards your NVQ3 in Lift Engineering, with a clear pathway to becoming a fully qualified, independent engineer.
