Job summary

Swindon Borough Council is recruiting a Licensing Officer to support a broad range of licensing functions across Taxi, Animal, Street Trading, Events and Premises Licensing. The role is within Environmental Health and Regulatory Services, offering development opportunity and a chance to impact local communities.

The successful candidate will work 37 hours per week, travel across the borough, and will be subject to a DBS check. Salary starts at £34,434 per annum with additional benefits.

Your next role

We are expanding our Licensing Team to ensure that it is resourced to provide a modern, efficient and effective service. As a Licensing Officer you will help cover the full range of licensing functions, including Taxi Licensing, Animal Licensing, Street Trading, Events and Premises Licensing. Supported by your colleagues and a growing embedded Regulatory Support team, you will work across these functions, and this is an opportunity to gain wide experience in a fast growing and vibrant borough.

We are seeking to recruit an experienced Licensing Officer but would also welcome applications from candidates with exceptional supporting skills that may not have current specialist experience, for a development role. For the right candidate, there will be opportunities to gain specialist knowledge and experience in a particular function, and/or to develop supervisory skills.

We are a busy and friendly team working within the Council's Environmental Health and Regulatory Services department alongside Environmental Health and Trading Standards, within the Public Health directorate. These teams collectively play an important role in the Council's Prevention and Early Intervention agenda.

You are self-motivated, with good time management skills to manage and prioritise your workload. You will possess excellent people skills allied with the proven ability to listen, explain, negotiate and influence. You will have a track record of good performance and will be able to work flexibly to tight deadlines.

You must be fluent in the English language (as a requirement of Part 7 of the Immigration Act "for the effective performance of a customer-facing role").

The ability to travel throughout the Borough and access to a vehicle will be required.

You will be subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service Check
