Job summary

North Northamptonshire Council is seeking a Licensing Administrator to provide accurate guidance to applicants and licence holders, processing applications within set timescales and ensuring compliance with data protection and council procedures.

You will manage consultations, maintain records, handle licensing fees, and collaborate with agencies such as the Police and Trading Standards to support safe, well-regulated communities.

Qualifications

  • Educated to 4 GCSEs Grade C or above or equivalent, including English and Maths.
  • Experience in an administration/customer service environment.
  • Experience in dealing with enquiries and communicating with the public.
  • Appreciation of need and purpose of Licensing.
  • Computer literate in the use of Microsoft Windows applications and the Internet.
  • Database experience.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work to tight deadlines and prioritise work demands and pressures, including own caseload.
  • Excellent Customer Service skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and processes.
  • Ability to work well as a team.
  • Self-motivated

Responsibilities

  • Provide advice and guidance to applicants, licence holders and customers on licensing processes, policies and procedures.
  • Process licence, permit, registration and notice applications accurately and within required timescales.
  • Manage consultation processes and liaise with relevant agencies, stakeholders and representatives.
  • Maintain accurate records and verify documentation using internal and external databases.
  • Ensure licensing records are compliant with data protection, Freedom of Information and data retention requirements.
  • Check, recording and charging licensing fees accurately.
  • Identify and escalate issues to the Licensing Enforcement Team where formal action may be required.
  • Produce reports and management information to support service delivery and performance monitoring.
  • Support the development and maintenance of licensing forms, guidance documents, website content and internal procedures.
  • Manage the Licensing inbox, responding to enquiries and directing requests to the appropriate team or service.
  • Work with partners including the Police, Home Office Immigration Enforcement, Trading Standards and Customer Services to support licensing activities.
  • Deliver a professional, customer-focused service that helps ensure compliance with licensing legislation and promotes safe, well-regulated communities.

Join our Licensing team and play a key role in delivering efficient and effective licensing administration services across North Northamptonshire. You will provide accurate advice and guidance to applicants, licence holders and their representatives, ensuring applications are processed in line with relevant legislation, regulations and council procedures.
