Job summary

Wiltshire Council is seeking a Library Assistant to join Chippenham Library on a 19-hour week. You will assist customers, help locate books and information, and support IT use. You will also participate in children’s activities and events, and assist volunteers and partners.

Applicants should have at least five GCSEs including English and Maths (A-C or equivalent) and good ICT skills. Previous library experience is not essential as training will be provided.

  • Good ICT/IT skills and confident with laptops/tablet devices.
  • Previous library experience not required as training will be provided.
  • Excellent customer service skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Assist customers with queries and help them find books and information.
  • Support customers with IT tasks and digital services.
  • Help run children’s activities and events (e.g. rhyme time).
  • Stock shelves, manage returns and assist volunteers and partners.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, friendly,resilientindividualto join our team at Chippenham Library working 19 hours per week to help provide a high-quality service for our customers.


As Library Assistant, you will help customers with queries, help them to find books and information and support them with IT. You will take part in children’s activities such as 'rhyme time' and events/activities for adults,stock work, supporting volunteers and partnersand other varied tasks.No two days will be the same andyou’llneed to be ready to deal with the unexpected!


You must have atleast five GCSEs, including Englishand Mathsat grade A-C or equivalent andgood useof ICT.Previouslibrary experience is not essential as we will train you in all aspects of library work. Excellent customer service skills or the ability todemonstrateyou can provide them is essential.


The work pattern for this role is:


Week 1:


Monday 10:00 - 14:00


Tuesday 10:00 - 13:00


Wednesday 09:00 - 13:00


Friday 14:00 - 19:00


Saturday 09:00 - 17:00


Week 2:


Monday 10:00 - 14:00


Tuesday 10:00 - 13:00


Wednesday 09:00 - 13:00


Friday 14:00 - 19:00
