Job summary

Leicestershire County Council's Earl Shilton Library is seeking a Library Services Assistant to join a friendly team.

You will help customers find information, assist with IT, shelve books, and run library events including IT tasters and sessions for under 5s.

The role is permanent, with Saturday hours (4.5 per week) and a pro rata salary of £25,995–£26,409 depending on hours worked.

Qualifications

  • Hold GCSE grades A-C or NVQ 2 or equivalent level of experience.
  • Have experience of, and an interest in, digital technology including an ECDL or ITQ level 2 qualification or equivalent practical experience.
  • Understand the importance of delivering a high level of customer service.

Responsibilities

Work Location: Earl Shilton Library, Wood Street, Earl Shilton, LE9 7NE

Salary: £25,995 - £26,409 per annum (pro rata for part-time) (pay award pending)

Working Hours:Saturdays 9:30am - 2pm (4.5 hours per week)

Contract Type: Permanent

About the Role

As a Library Services Assistant, you will work as part of a team responsible for providing a high quality, welcoming, and efficient library service to all customers. You will support library users to find the information and resources they need, assist them to use IT systems, shelve and display books and other materials, and deliver library events such as IT tasters and sessions for under 5’s. You will also be required to promote customer choice and enjoyment in reading, and the service’s digital offer including e-books and online reference resources.

About You

To apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria:

  • Have an interest in reading, learning and culture.
  • Hold GCSE grades A-C standard or NVQ 2 or equivalent level of experience.
  • Have experience of, and an interest in, digital technology including an ECDL or ITQ level 2 qualification or equivalent practical experience.
  • Understand the importance of delivering a high level of customer service.
  • Have excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to deliver events, activities, and taster sessions.
  • Have good literacy and numeracy skills to undertake the duties of the role.
  • Be able to work as part of a team and on your own initiative. And have good time management skills and the ability to work to deadlines.
