Job summary

Gloucestershire County Council is seeking a Library Assistant to join the Gloucester Libraries cluster. The role involves helping customers choose and issue books, maintaining stock, and delivering children’s activities across Quedgeley and Matson libraries on a two-week rota.

You will work both independently and with staff and volunteers, including handling money. The post is fixed term for one year, 19.75 hours per week, with a pro-rata salary of £26,403–£27,694 per annum.

About The Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the team in the Gloucester Libraries cluster as a Library Assistant. We are looking for dynamic individual with a sense of fun to help develop what we offer to our customers.

Our Library Assistants are the public face of the Library Service, making sure that our customers have access to all of the services that libraries provide.

This will include helping them choose and issue books, maintaining the stock in the library, signposting to advice services and providing children’s activities. We’re looking for someone who can work independently and with colleagues and volunteers, handle money and think on their feet.

The position is 19.75 hours per week, working between Quedgeley (QY) and Matson (MN) libraries on a 2-week rota. Example timetable:

Week 1: Monday 10-5 (QY), Tuesday 10-5 (QY), Wednesday OFF, Thursday OFF, Friday 1.30-4.30 (MN), and Saturday 9.30-1 (MN)
Week 2: Monday 2-5 (MN), Tuesday 10-5 (QY), Wednesday 2-5 (QY), Thursday 10-5 (MN), Friday 2-5 (QY) and Saturday OFF
