Job summary

West Suffolk Council is seeking a Vehicle Mechanic to join the Waste and Street Scene Services team near Bury St Edmunds. The role involves servicing and repairing a range of light and heavy vehicles, road-sweepers, and plant equipment to keep our fleet on the move.

You will attend breakdowns, perform welding and fabrication, assist with MOT testing, and maintain accurate work records. A strong team player who is well organised will thrive in this permanent, full-time post.

Qualifications

Strong team player with good organisational skills.
Ability to plan and prioritise workshop requirements.
Self-motivated and able to work with technical teams.

Responsibilities

To undertake regular servicing and repair of light and heavy vehicles, road-sweepers, plant and horticultural equipment.
To attend breakdowns and site visits to provide assistance as required.
To provide a welding and fabrication service and assist with MOT testing as necessary
To prepare and maintain work records
To represent the Council in a professional manner in accordance with customer care policy and the contract specification
To ensure that all aspects of the work are carried out in a safe manner in accordance with the Council’s Health & Safety Policy including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as issued
To carry out any other reasonable tasks commensurate to the grade of this post.
