Job summary

Elliotts UK is seeking a Class 1 LGV driver based in Southampton. You will work 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday, delivering building materials locally and representing the company with a friendly, professional approach.

Safety comes first: perform daily vehicle checks, adhere to drivers’ hours rules, and support the yard when needed. There is occasional Saturday overtime; benefits include pension, holidays, training, and staff discounts.

Qualifications

• Full UK Category C+E (Class 1) driving licence.
• Experience driving articulated vehicles, including coupling and uncoupling trailers.
• Driver CPC qualification card (Driver Qualification Card).
• Digital tachograph card.
• Good understanding of drivers’ hours rules and daily vehicle checks.
• Friendly, professional manner with customers.
• Able to work well on your own and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills.
• Happy to do some physical work, including outdoor work in all weathers.

Responsibilities

• Multi-drop deliveries of building materials by articulated (Class 1) lorry to customers; both sites and addresses.
• Coupling and uncoupling trailers; ensure loads are secured before departure.
• Carrying out daily vehicle and trailer checks, reporting any defects.
• We’re a team so, if needed, help the yard team to load and unload lorries.
• The customer is always our priority and we’ll go the extra mile to do whatever it takes.

As a local builders’ merchant, our deliveries are generally close to the branch, serving customers in the surrounding area.

You’ll work 8.5 hours a day, Monday to Friday, generally between 7am and 5pm - with your evenings free and no night shifts.

Want to earn a little extra? There’s also the opportunity for overtime every other Saturday morning, from 8am to 12pm.

The Role:

Our drivers are the face of Elliotts. For a lot of our customers, you’re the person they see most, so how you deal with them really matters. They’re a friendly bunch, passionate about giving a great customer experience.

As our Class 1 driver, you’ll drive an articulated lorry, delivering larger loads of building materials to our customers.

Key responsibilities:

• Multi drop deliveries of building materials by articulated (Class 1) lorry to customers; both building sites and residential addresses

• Coupling and uncoupling trailers, and making sure every load is safely secured before it leaves the yard

• Carrying out daily vehicle and trailer checks, and reporting any defects

• We’re a team so if needed, help the yard team to load and unload lorries

• The customer is always our priority and we’ll go the extra mile to do whatever it takes

What you need:

Essential:

• Full UK Category C+E (Class 1) driving licence

• Experience driving articulated vehicles, including coupling and uncoupling trailers

• Driver CPC qualification card (Driver Qualification Card)

• Digital tachograph card

• Good understanding of drivers’ hours rules and daily vehicle checks

• Friendly, professional manner with customers

• Able to work well on your own and as part of a team

• Good communication skills

• Happy to do some physical work, including handling materials and working outdoors in all weathers

Nice to have (training provided if not):

• HIAB or lorry loader certificate

• Counterbalance forklift licence

• Experience with multi-drop deliveries or construction sites
