Job summary

EH Smith Group is seeking an experienced HGV driver at our Witham branch. You will perform multi‑drop deliveries of building materials across the local area, operating safely and professionally in compliance with regulations.

The role is permanent and full-time, with a focus on reliability and customer service. The ideal candidate will hold an HGV Cat C license and may have a HIAB certificate or experience.

Qualifications

• Must hold an HGV Cat C license.
• HIAB certificate preferred; HIAB experience advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Operate HGV and related equipment in line with licence and company requirements.
• Assist with loading/unloading of HGVs safely.
• Deliver goods on schedule to customers and conduct daily vehicle checks.
• Record journey times, mileage, and hours worked.

Hours

• Sociable hours – no overnight stays or late evenings
• 42.5 hours per week Monday-Friday
• Start and Finish times could be 7:30am-5:00pm / 7:00am-4:30pm / 6:30am-4:00pm
• Participation in the Saturday Morning Rota - typically two Saturday mornings per month

We are looking for a positive, confident, professional and safety-focused individual who wants to provide our customers with service that goes above and beyond.

The successful candidate will need to hold an HGV category C license.

A HIAB/ALLMI certificate and HIAB experience are preferable.

Key Tasks

• Operate HGV and associated equipment in line with licence, competence and company requirements
• Assisting with loading / unloading of HGV vehicles in a safe manner
• Driving an HGV vehicle in accordance with delivery schedule
• Maintaining records of journey times, mileage and hours worked
• Delivering a safe, first-class service to our customers, both trade and retail
• Conducting daily vehicle checks and reporting defects
• Operating a tachograph in line with current legislation
• Health & Safety awareness/adherence
• Permanent, full-time employment (part time may be considered upon request)
