Job summary

VanRath Search & Selection is looking for an experienced LGV Cat C Refuse Driver (Public Sector) in Newry, NI. A 3 month contract with extension is on offer, with an hourly rate of GBP14.00 to GBP14.52.

The role involves operating Category C1 vehicles, supervising crews, carrying out vehicle checks and assisting in recycling operations, in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Valid Category C1 licence and CPC/Driver Qualification Card required.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience operating with a Category C1 licence.
• Strong knowledge of health & safety procedures and safe vehicle operation.

Responsibilities

• Drive and operate specialist vehicles (Category C1) for waste collections, street cleansing and environmental services.
• Supervise and support crew members to ensure safe, efficient operations.
• Perform routine vehicle checks, maintenance and safety reporting.
• Assist the public at Household Recycling Centres and maximise recycling opportunities.
• Collect domestic, commercial, bulky and recyclable waste with safe handling.

LGV Cat C Refuse Driver (Public Sector)

Our public sector client is seeking an experienced and motivated LGV Cat C Refuse Driver to join their Operations team. Working within the Environmental Cleansing Service (Refuse Collection), the post holder will be required to provide, in a safe and effective manner, a quality and efficient Refuse Collection Service including all recycling collection activities, in all weather conditions. This will be an initial 3 month contract with great likelihood of extension.

The Role

As a Waste Resource Management Driver, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality waste and recycling services across the borough. Duties include:

• Driving and operating specialist vehicles (Category C1) to support waste collections, street cleansing, and environmental services.
• Supervising and supporting crew members to ensure safe, efficient operations.
• Carrying out routine vehicle checks, maintenance, and safety reporting.
• Assisting the public at Household Recycling Centres and maximising recycling opportunities.
• Collecting domestic, commercial, bulky, and recyclable waste, ensuring safe handling and adherence to service standards.
• Supporting other frontline services during adverse weather or emergencies (e.g., gritting and snow clearance).

About You

We are looking for individuals who can work both independently and as part of a team, with strong organisational and customer service skills.

• Valid Category C1 licence.
• Full CPC / Driver Qualification Card.
• Minimum 2 years’ experience operating with a Category C1 licence.
• Working knowledge of health & safety procedures(manual handling, reversing assistants).
• Ability to work with minimal supervision, demonstrating initiative and reliability.
• Previous experience in the waste management sector, particularly refuse collection and recycling.
• Experience operating mechanical sweepers.
