Job summary

HS2 Ltd in the United Kingdom seeks a Legal Counsel to deliver a full range of legal advice to HS2 and its Directorates on commercial/contracts law, GDPR compliance, and procurement matters across the HS2 program.

You will draft templates, manage external counsel, and provide ad hoc updates to ensure HS2 adheres to legislation while supporting budget and delivery timelines. This role includes training internal staff and contributing to risk management strategies.

Qualifications

• Qualified solicitor or barrister with contracting or construction experience.
• Specialism in contract law and/or procurement law, preferably with focus on large projects.
• Experience in public sector procurement processes.
• Experience managing external legal advice and budgets.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality legal advice on commercial/contracts law for HS2 and its Directorates.
• Lead on GDPR and Data Protection Act compliance and privacy matters.
• Run weekly legal surgeries for contract management and procurement law.
• Manage external legal counsel and budgeting for legal services.
• Prepare reports and briefings for senior management on legal matters.
• Supervise trainees/junior lawyers when needed.
• Promote Equality, Diversity and Inclusion in all work.
