Are you ready to be a key player in one of the most exciting and significant infrastructure projects in the UK? We're on the lookout for a dynamic and experienced construction lawyer to join our team at Sizewell C (SZC) as a Legal Counsel.

The Opportunity

The SZC Project is a nuclear new build project in Suffolk; when completed, it will provide dependable electricity to 6 million homes for 60 years, which along with renewables, will support Britain to achieve Net Zero by 2050.

We have a fantastic opportunity for a Legal Counsel specialising in construction supply chain contracts, responsible for supporting the timely, efficient, and compliant delivery of the Project. The role sits within the SZC legal team, which supports all areas of the SZC project.

Our teams are set up to work flexibly, with a hybrid working approach between our offices and your home. We provide a full suite of IT equipment to ensure that our employees can work from home comfortably and effectively.

The Role

You’ll provide high-quality, effective, and pragmatic legal advice on a wide array of matters, related to construction and supply chain activities, including Asset Protection Agreements and rail agreements.

You’ll take ownership of:

  • Broad Legal Expertise: provide legal advice to Project-wide stakeholders, in particular the site delivery team on a broad range of complex and high value matters including the development of construction and wider supply chain, including APAs and rail.
  • Strategic Support: Contribute to the SZC capital raise project by provide legal guidance on SZC’s procurement activities.
  • Compliance & Risk Mitigation: Ensure adherence to laws and industry standards, and provide proactive legal advice.
  • Dispute Resolution: Assist in resolving legal disputes and liaise with external counsel.
  • Relationship Management: Engage with internal and external stakeholders, including regulators and law firms.

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Admission as a solicitor in England & Wales or an equivalent common law jurisdiction.
  • Extensive post-qualification experience, ideally with a strong background in construction supply chain contracts (NEC).
  • Your legal expertise is matched by your ability to navigate high-value, high-risk matters with strategic insight.
  • You thrive in dynamic environments, capable of driving improvements and managing intricate legal challenges.
  • Your excellent communication skills and ability to build strong stakeholder relationships set you apart.
  • Well-rounded legal knowledge, experience in the construction sector and commercial acumen.
  • Experience of the development and delivery of infrastructure projects, operating in a nuclear environment and a broad understanding of corporate risk areas would be beneficial.
