Location: Shuttleworth College – Old Warden

Salary/Benefits: Salary from £31,930 (qualified) or £25,750 (non-qualified) per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, Teacher’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week

About the role:

We are currently seeking a Lecturer / Trainee Lecturer in Personal Development to join our Land and Environment department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Lecturer, you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Overall Responsibilities – Deliver and assess a range of courses within the Land and Environment Department, focusing on personal development; support student success; contribute to curriculum innovation; engage in marketing and promotion.
  • Teaching & Support – Teach topics like safeguarding, life skills, British Values, and employability; provide tutorial and professional skills support; deliver work readiness activities; track student progress using college systems.
  • Curriculum & Assessment – Develop schemes of work and learning materials; assess and verify student work; provide progress reports; implement vocational opportunities; contribute to curriculum development and quality processes.
  • Administration & Engagement – Maintain accurate records; participate in meetings and course reviews; support marketing events; interview and assess prospective students; ensure safe, inclusive learning environments.
  • Statutory & Additional Duties – Promote safeguarding, equality, diversity, and health and safety; engage in CPD; lead curriculum development and mentor new staff (if Cert Ed/PGCE qualified); collaborate with Advanced Practitioners.

About you:

  • Qualifications – Level 3 qualification; GCSE English and Maths (or willingness to achieve Level 2); willingness to gain a Certificate in Education or equivalent.
  • Experience – Delivering to learner groups; working in post-16 education; achieving team goals; high performance in previous roles; working with diverse backgrounds; promoting equality and diversity.
  • Teaching Skills – Strong teaching ability across age groups and levels; curriculum development; delivering high-quality learning experiences; completing admin tasks accurately and on time.
  • Professional Attributes – Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to work independently and meet deadlines; interest in the land-based sector; flexible and committed to continuous development.
  • Commitment & Compliance – Promoting safeguarding and welfare; maintaining appropriate boundaries; willingness to travel across sites; awareness of health and safety; current driving licence.
