Description
Sandwell College is seeking a dedicated and passionate Lecturer in Public Services to inspire the next generation of uniformed professionals on a permanent, fixed term basis, September 2026 - August 2027.
You will play a key role in developing our Public Services provision, teaching NCFE qualifications from Level 1 to Level 3, and preparing students for real-world careers. Working collaboratively, you will support the Head of Section in designing and delivering a dynamic, interactive, and inclusive curriculum that aligns with industry standards and meets the diverse needs of learners, local communities, external agencies, and employers.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver specific programmes and assess across Levels 1 to 3 NCFE qualifications using diverse, engaging instructional methods
- Take responsibility for courses, curriculum planning, and personal tutoring, including providing advice and guidance to students aged 16+ regarding their physical, emotional, and educational well-being
- Organise, lead, and participate in residential and educational trips, visits, sporting or team-building activities, and enrichment events featuring guest speakers
- Proactively develop, monitor, and align relevant work experience placements with student progression goals
- Utilise Information Learning Technology (ILT), including the Virtual Learning Environment (Moodle) and management information systems (ProMonitor, EBS), to develop innovative learning materials and enhance course delivery
- Ensure effective communication and collaborate with management, staff, students, parents, carers, local businesses, and external agencies (such as social workers and employers)
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
- Hold a Level 5 Public Services subject specialism, or be actively working towards achieving one
- Possess a recognised teaching qualification, such as a Certificate in Education or a Level 5 Teaching Qualification
- Proven experience teaching Public Services and supporting diverse student needs
- Experience working with \"Skills for Life\" within the Qualification Curriculum Authority regulating framework
- Experience teaching Entry Levels Functional Skills ICT
- Experience executing internal verification and moderation processes
Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding
To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:

- DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
- Certificate in Education
- PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
- ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education)
- DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
- DiT (Diploma in Teaching) - if for a vocational subject
If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).
Not Accepted as Stand Alone Qualifications
- PTLLS (Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
- CTLLS (Certificate in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
- CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults)
