Job summary

Qualifications

  • A degree and/or relevant professional qualification in Hairdressing or a related discipline (or be working towards one)
  • A Certificate in Education or Level 5 Teaching Qualification (or be working towards one)
  • A Level 3 Hairdressing qualification (essential)
  • A Level 3 Assessor Award (desirable)
  • Experience of delivering excellent teaching, learning and assessment
  • Experience of preparing, developing and evaluating engaging learning materials
  • Experience of internal verification (desirable)
  • Excellent organisational, communication and administrative skills
  • Confidence using Information Learning Technology (ILT) to enhance teaching and learning

Responsibilities

  • Deliver outstanding Hairdressing programmes as directed by the Head of Section
  • Plan, prepare and deliver engaging lessons that inspire and motivate learners
  • Contribute to curriculum planning, development and continuous quality improvement
  • Take responsibility for course delivery, course tutorship and personal tutoring
  • Develop innovative learning resources using Information Learning Technology (ILT) and multimedia platforms
  • Monitor learner progress, set and review targets, and provide effective pastoral support
  • Prepare, develop and evaluate learning materials that meet awarding body requirements
  • Maintain accurate academic and administrative records using College systems
  • Support the continued development and expansion of the Hair and Beauty curriculum
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure outstanding teaching, learning and assessment
  • Participate in College events, including open evenings, interviews and enrolment activities

Description

Are you an experienced Hairdressing professional with a passion for inspiring the next generation? Sandwell College is seeking a talented and enthusiastic Lecturer in Hairdressing to join our successful Hair and Beauty department on a permanent, part-time basis.

This is an exciting opportunity for an industry professional or experienced lecturer who holds a Level 3 Hairdressing qualification and is committed to delivering outstanding teaching, learning and assessment. You'll inspire learners to develop the technical, creative and professional skills needed to succeed within the hairdressing industry while contributing to an innovative and supportive learning environment.

Working closely with the Head of Section and curriculum colleagues, you will deliver engaging lessons, provide outstanding pastoral support and help shape the continued success and growth of our Hair and Beauty provision.

Key Responsibilities

Teaching Qualifications & Salary Banding

To be eligible for our Qualified Lecturer salary banding (£31,837 - £48,160), you must hold one of the following teaching qualifications:

  • DTTLS (Diploma in Teaching in the Lifelong Learning Sector)
  • Certificate in Education
  • PGCE (Postgraduate Certificate in Education)
  • ProfGCE (Professional Graduate Certificate in Education)
  • DET (Diploma in Education and Training)
  • DiT (Diploma in Teaching) – if for a vocational subject

If you do not hold one of the above qualifications, you will fall into our Unqualified Lecturer salary banding (£26,661 - £29,998).
